The 2023 Ryder Cup was nothing short of a disappointment for the American squad as they were defeated by a stunning performance by their European rivals. Moreover, the Zach Johnson-led team suffered what can be called a depressing set of foursomes at the biennial event, causing the entire golf world’s attention to be drawn to the same.

And at the center of the limelight were none other than the golfers Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler. The duo had played in the morning sessions and suffered a loss. But when asked about the same, the pair were careful in their reply and tactically answered the question of how to get better at the format by touching upon their “execution,” an abstruse response no less!

The American team could only manage a win from the first sessions on both days, while the Luke Donald-led group emerged victorious in the rest of the foursomes raking in a total of seven points from the two mornings. The team, especially Fowler and Spieth, were asked about how the squad could get better in the same during an interview post the match.

In the press conference, the disheartened 34-year-old mentioned how their rivals “made more putts” than them. Moreover, he added how the US team failed to take advantage of the chances offered to them as opposed to the Europeans, who did the opposite.

Continuing with his reply, the 6X PGA Tour champ pointed out the fact that the champions used those opportunities to make the momentum shift in their favor, all the while “making putts and chipping in.”

Meanwhile, his 30-year-old teammate was quick to agree with Fowler’s stance as he recalled Viktor Hovland‘s chip-in from the greens leading to the pin at the start of the foursomes on Friday. Moreover, the 13X PGA Tour winner made sure to call attention to how he didn’t feel like there was anything different with the loss they suffered as opposed to the ones that the team won in the past, just that the “execution” of the shots were different.

Well, both the golfers just alluded to the fact that their rivals were able to carry out their game better this week while not bringing up how they can get better at foursomes, which was the actual question posed by the interviewer!

The duo did not have a very good journey in the biennial tournament this time around. Even so, it makes one curious as to how they fared in the same.

Fowler only played in two matches over the three days, during the foursomes on Friday and on the Sunday Singles. The 34-year-old lost the first match 2&1 in which he was paired with Collin Morikawa against Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka. Moreover, in addition to the first loss, he couldn’t manage a redemption at the singles pairing against Tommy Fleetwood during which he suffered a 3&1 defeat.

Meanwhile, Spieth fared a bit better by halving two of the matches he played while enduring a loss in the other two. He tied the match on Sunday against Lowry and on Friday fourballs with Justin Thomas as his pair.
