After over a month-long hiatus, LIV Golf has finally returned this weekend. This is LIV’s second outing at Rich Harvest Farms after its 2022 stop. In the windy city of Chicago, fans were eager to spot some of the biggest names in the sport. However, it was their attire that drew their attention on the first day of the $25M tournament.

Golf fans were eager for this tournament for many reasons, one being, how Brooks Koepka, the only LIV golfer to play in the upcoming Ryder Cup, fares in the tournament. Sergio Garcia, another former Ryder cupper for Team Europe, was in the spotlight after his snub from this year’s Ryder Cup team. Whether Cameron Smith can defend his title and claim his fourth LIV Golf victory also remains a hot topic. But, as soon as the players walked into the greens, all eyes were drawn to the ribbon on their cap.

The likes of Sergio Garcia, Patrick ReedDustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau were all seen sporting a red and black ribbon on their cap. In 2021, golfers wore red and black at WGC-Workday in support of Tiger Woods after his car accident. This time, the red and black ribbon compelled many fans to question the reason behind this.

Clarifying on Twitter with a picture of Marc Leishman’s smiling face, LIV Golf shared the reason behind this gesture. This time, the players were showcasing support for their fellow LIV golfer, Leishman’s charitable organization, Begin Again Foundation, which is a corporation close to the golfer’s heart.

The foundation was established by the one-time DP Tour winner and his wife Audrey Leishman in 2016. The couple, through the organization, aims to educate and raise awareness about sepsis and toxic shock syndrome. The Leishman family also hosts the annual Birdies, Bubbles and Beers tournament to raise financial help for their organization.

It should be noted that in 2015, the Australian golfer’s wife had a potentially fatal encounter with sepsis. After recovering, she and her husband came up with the idea of opening an organization to raise awareness about the disease. Thus, in 2016, the Begin Again Foundation came into existence.

Leishman was one of the key players to be lured away by LIV golf from PGA alongside his Aussie compatriot Cameron Smith. Although, with three titles under his name, Smith is eyeing a four, Leishman since leaving PGA, is yet to register a tournament victory under his name. With seven birdies, he currently sits at number six on the leaderboard.
