Will Zalatoris is a 25-year-old professional golfer, a maestro in playing at the major tournaments. Although he is not a member of the PGA Tour yet, he is considered one of the best in the world now.

The current world no. 14 has been in the top order for all the majors he has played, except for two. He missed the cut at the 2021 U. S. Open, whereas the young golfer had to withdraw from the Open Championship.

The 1-time Korn Ferry Tour champion has never won a PGA Tour title. As a young golfer of 25, he has seen his best and worst since he turned professional in 2018. Failure or victory, his caddie Ryan Goble has been a part of the Zalatoris’ golfing journey.

Notably, Zalatoris considers his caddie the main reason why he got to win the TPC Colorado Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour. According to him, Goble’s intervention at the right time made him slow down his game, thus winning it by a one-shot lead.

As one of the primary support systems of the 25-year-old, let’s find out everything about his long-time caddie Ryan Goble!

Who is Ryan Goble?

Unlike other caddies, Ryan Goble’s first choice of sport has never been golf. In fact, he grew up playing basketball and has even served as the captain of his high school and college teams.

Later, Goble coached the Exeter High School boys basketball team to the Division III Championship. Following that, he became a men’s golf team’s assistant coach

Before becoming the caddie for Zalatoris, Goble carried the bag for the PGA Tour professional player John Merrick. Notably, he was the caddie of Merrick when he won his only victory at Riviera in 2013. Goble also made his debut at the Augusta National with the first golfer he caddied.

Following Merrick, the former basketball coach caddied for Spencer Levin, Michael Thompson, and K.H. Lee. However, his only victory on the PGA Tour is still one, the 2013 Northern Trust Open with John Merrick.

When did Ryan Goble start caddying for Will Zalatoris?

After leaving K. H. Lee, Goble worked in a local golf club in North Carolina. According to him, John Merrick’s manager, who also managed Will Zalatoris, contacted asking whether he could caddie for the Korn Ferry pro.

Since he was not on PGA Tour, and thus the payment would be less, Goble didn’t like the idea at first. However, after missing a couple of chances to caddie for him due to personal reasons, Goble started caddying for the golfer Lecom Health Challenge in 2019.

“The first practice round with that kid,” Goble said about his first impression of the golfer. “And I thought, ‘Oh wow,’ because he’s that talented.”
