Caddie changes have been rampant in recent months! Whether it be Phil Mickelson‘s brother stepping down from his caddie duties to Tyrell Hatton’s caddie’s unfortunate accident that ruled him out from looping for the LIV golfer, Tommy Fleetwood has also added his name to the last-moment looper crisis. However, all have gotten their resolutions.
Tommy Fleetwood will be appearing for his eighth Masters championship this year. The 33-year-old was also caddie-less before the first major championship of the season. Ian Finnis, his best friend, who is also his caddie, won’t be accompanying him at the Georgian greens. Although he would prefer to have his Finnis by his side, he has to head into the greens with someone else. At the dawn of the Masters, the information of his new caddie was revealed and it was none other than Gray Moore, a veteran of the Augusta National. Here is all that you have to know about him.

Gray Moore is an icon in his own right. After working as the caddie master for 30 years now, since 1996, he has turned out to be one of the most popular figures and, not to forget, a legend at the club. Moore had also caddied for players as big as Tom Watson at the Masters. Tommy Fleetwood, who has had an average run in the Masters, with T14 being his best rank, first met Moore during his first few years of entering the Masters.
He went to seek his advice back then, and the two seemed to have developed a connection. It looks like this has worked out well for him now as well. Fleetwood turned to Moore and asked him if he could be on his bag in his quest to win his first Masters title and stated, “The first two or three years that I came here I always had Gray in practice and would always sit and speak to him. So, I’ve known him well for the last few years and I just asked if he could do it this week.” So teaming up will definitely be no problem for the two.
The news spread like wildfire and Fore Play took to its official Instagram account to share the same. The post consisted of a picture of Gray Moore and Tommy Fleetwood walking on the greens of Augusta National, with the caption, “Tommy’s got a local caddie on the bag this week 👀 Hope Fino’s feeling better soon.”

For Fleetwood, it is very clear that Finnis is his best friend first and caddie later. The English golfer went on record and stated how his looper had been struggling with his health and stated, “Yeah, he’s not been well all year. At the moment he’s at home trying to recover and get the right treatment. Following this revelation, the 33-year-old also had some more sweet words for his dear friend.
Tommy Fleetwood’s message for Ian Finnis
Tommy Fleetwood will be appearing for his eighth Masters championship this year. Ian Finnis has never missed his caddie duties in all these years, except for the 2018 BMW International Open, where he had to sit out once again due to his health. Coming into the current season, Finnis couldn’t be next to the English golfer at the last Valero Texas Open, as he suffered from a chest infection.

Instead, it was Adrian Rietveld, a senior manager at TaylorMade who took up the role of looper at Texas greens. Due to his health struggles, Finnis will also be missing out on his Masters appearance. Fleetwood even said, “It’s definitely very, very different. Last week was weird just going out there and doing I guess so many things that he would do.”

However, for his friend’s benefit, he suggested that Finnis take the time off and recover, sitting back at home. And although this would mean going outside his comfort zone, his health comes first. Fleetwood added, “But I’m far more bothered about him getting better and his health being right. He’s definitely in the right place at the moment. I look forward to when he does get back out.”
