Is Dylan Brack the next Tiger Woods, or just another young talent in a crowded field?

Dylan Brack is undoubtedly turning out to be one of the luckiest amateur golfers. The 18-year-old prodigy comes from the Tiger Woods Learning Lab in Anaheim, California. He made it to the headlines two years ago by winning the 2022 inaugural TGR Jr. Invitational. After grabbing a win, he said, No big deal, just the🐐 (GOAT) announcing your name on the first tee. No pressure at all.”

On Monday, Brack shot an impressive 8-under 64 at the Palmilla Golf Club. He carded an eagle on the second hole, which gave him a giant push to go through his round. After carding seven birdies and one bogey, he qualified for his PGA Tour debut leading by one shot over Ryan Gerard and Zach Bauchou. While Woods has been away from the game, focusing on recovery after undergoing his sixth surgery on his lower back in September, TGR’s prodigy will be on the greens of the upcoming WWT Championship. The venue where Brack will play his first PGA Tour event is designed by none other than Tiger Woods himself.

Dylan Brack was born on January 30, 2006, in Riverside, California. He started swinging golf clubs when he was two and a half years old. But that was not necessarily a true golf kit. He used a plastic set to play back then. Although there has not been much knowledge about his parents, it is a known fact that they have been very supportive of his journey throughout.

“Since I showed an interest in golf, my parents purchased a right-handed putter & clubs and cut them down since they were still too big for me,” he said while talking about his bios for one of the interviews. It was his parents who noticed that while watching golf tournaments, he would often turn the clubs around to play golf and imitate the pros on the show. He was a follower of Phil Mickelson and that was mostly where he learned to play left-handed golf.

In October 2010, at the age of 4 and a half, Dylan Brack began his journey with The First Tee of Pasadena, after an employee at a local practice course noticed his natural talent. Wherever he practiced, one thing consistently caught the attention of adults: his swing. It was a unique, fluid motion that seemed innate rather than taught. After receiving numerous compliments about his swing, Dylan’s parents decided to explore the possibility of their son having a natural talent for golf. They sought out a golf coach to determine whether their observations were mere wishful thinking or if there was true potential behind his impressive swing. He began his first coaching under Wataru “Watt” Tomita at Brookside GC from April 2011 – July 2013 at the age of five.

Dylan Brack’s journey till his debut on the PGA Tour

Dylan Brack soon after started playing for the US Kids and finished second at the 2012 Veritas World Junior Golf Championships Boys 6 Division, at the age of five. There was no looking back for him ever since. At the age of seven, he became a part of the Tiger Woods Learning Lab Player Development Golf Program in California. He has also been working with Greg Castleman since 2013, who has trained several players like Guan Tianlang, Bethany Wu, Elizabeth Wang, Alexa Melton and Angel Yin during their junior careers.

“I’d like to be the next student of Greg’s to do so”, he said. And well, he did become so. His parents bought the Nike Victory Red Pro Iron Combo for him in 2012, and that brought a lot of change. “In 2014, I won both local & sub-regional qualifiers for the National Drive Chip & Putt Contest. I competed at the Regionals at Torrey Pines and placed 3rd overall,” he said. He then took up Titleist in 2016 and has been playing with them ever since then. It was with those that he won the Tiger Woods’s event at the Pebble Beach. And now, he will finally be one step closer to achieving his dreams. Although not a full-time membership, his journey has at least kick-started on the Tour.
