The kind of love that Stewart Cink shares with his wife, Lisa Cink, is surely one that is straight out of a fairytale. The professional golfer met the love of his life while he was still at Florence High School in Alabama. Interestingly enough, before the couple started dating, Cink went out with several of his now-wife’s friends. But eventually, destiny led them to each other.

Counting back to the strong relationship they have built over the last three decades, which helped them fight Lisa’s terminal-stage cancer, elicits the need to unravel the intricacies of their love story as well as a deeper insight into the journey of Lisa Cink, the veteran pro’s biggest supporter.

Life led the high school sweethearts to diverge in separate directions as they went on to college. The pro golfer moved to Georgia Tech, while Lisa moved to Auburn. However, they soon realized the connection they held was deeper and decided to chase love. Eventually, destiny aligned their paths when Lisa Cink moved to Georgia Tech University.

This was no coincidence, but a reward for Lisa’s persistent efforts that led the couple to tie the knot in 1993 at the age of 20 and build a family with their two sons, Connor and Reagan.

The Cink family likes to indulge in activities such as traveling and cooking. The couple also has a few other interests that lie outside the golfing world. The golfer and his wife seem to share a love for the NBA, especially the Atlanta Hawks. This is evident from their frequent visits to witness the team’s game at the State Farm Arena.

Their love for traveling is evident in their frequent visits to Hawaii, as is witnessed from the famous pro’s Instagram account. Other than living life to the fullest, the entire Cink clan is closely knit and supportive of the golfer’s professional career. In fact, along with his wife, his son, Reagan, has also caddied for the PGA Tour pro in the past. Most notably at the Safeway Open, where the talented star won after a decade.

The couple’s journey together has not been an easy one. But as they say, difficulties make love stronger. One of the most challenging phases that the duo faced in their married bliss was Lisa Cink’s struggle with advanced-stage breast cancer.

How did Stewart Cink and his wife fight against cancer?

The 50-year-old was at the peak of his career when the shocking news of his wife being diagnosed with severely malignant breast cancer came to light. Considering the severity of the condition that their family was exposed to, Cink stepped away from the professional game to take care of Lisa in 2016.

At the time, he described the circumstances, stating, “Last week, my wife, Lisa, and I received some unfortunate news. Lisa has been diagnosed with breast cancer—a startling and unexpected revelation for everyone in our family. We are still in the process of figuring out exactly what she is fighting, and the uncertainty continues to be very difficult.”

Talking about how the golfer was right by her side, Cink said, “He was so precious; he was such a calming influence. He was absolutely incredible during chemo and could not have supported me more.” For Lisa, even when she was struggling, she needed to make sure that her husband was feeling good about life. “But I needed him to be OK, so he could help me be OK,” said Lisa. She used to push him out of the door on some days to practice his swing so that he didn’t lose touch with the game.

“It was absolutely terrifying,” said Stewart Cink’s wife of her initial struggles with the menacing disease. Tracing back to her initial memories, she said, “Dr. (Thomas) Buchholz said, and I remember what his face looked like, he said, ‘It’s in several places in your bones,’ I was like a puddle on the floor… Stage 4. I thought, I’m going to die.”

Living with a terminal disease is one of the most soul-trembling experiences. It is like an uncertain roller coaster that a patient with the said disease undergoes. Describing her lived experience, she said, “You have good and bad days. One day, you’re going to conquer the world. The next day, you don’t want to get out of bed.”

The struggle of overcoming cancer was not easy, but Cink and Lisa made it through! It took nearly nine rounds of chemotherapy for Lisa to bounce back and emerge victorious in her fight against cancer. Upon her return, the star wife put the rest of the golf world in a state of shock and wonderment by caddying for her talented husband at the PNC Father/Son Challenge in December 2016. She sometimes still caddy for her husband and was seen at this year’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

As Cink continues to be at the apex of the leaderboard of the 2024 Valspar Championship being held at the Innisbrook Copper Course, for the time being, his biggest support remains his beloved wife.
