It was a victory long due at the Valspar Championship for Peter Malnati in Palm Harbor. The 32-year-old was not in contention for the first 36 holes. However, the final-round stretch of four birdies helped him beat Cameron Young, who was chasing his maiden win on the PGA Tour but missed on it as he bogeyed the par-4 18th hole.
The victory indeed was a huge breakthrough for Malnati, as he won after nearly a decade. His first and only victory before the Valspar Championship was at the 2015 Farmer Insurance Open. The triumph at Copperhead Course meant a massive deal for his caddie too, Chad Antus, who lifted a trophy after waiting for nearly two decades.

Chad Antus comes from the state of Pennsylvania and has studied at the Latrobe High School to start his early education. After graduating in 1991, he was then admitted to Clarion University of Pennsylvania. However, the veteran caddie did not play golf at the collegiate level. His journey with golf started in 2002 as he went on to caddie for the first time.
It has been 22 years since Antus first started with the role that saw him being a caddie for many golfers. The many employers he carried the bag for before Peter Malnati were Doug LaBelle, Chris Tidland, Brett Wetterich, Heath Slocum, Hank Kuehne, Nick Thompson, and Aaron Goldberg, Antus revealed in an interview with the Caddie Network. Reportedly, Antus won his first career win on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2008 or 2009.
And finally after two decades, Antus has his second career win with any golfer. So, while Malnati broke his curse of winless drought, he also helped his caddie enjoy the taste of victory after many years. The two probably gel together for the same reasons, as they have gone through several ups and downs with each other since joining hands in 2017.

The 2024 season is the seventh year of Antus carrying Malnati’s bag and throughout his time with the 2024 Valspar Champion, the veteran caddie has helped him to rely on himself. In an interview, Antus talked about this aspect of their relationship and said, “Really, it’s comparable to a marriage.” Furthermore, he also divulged how he supports Malnati on the course.“I’m not sure that he actually relies on me or expects it, but I definitely try to do that,” Antus revealed.
Undoubtedly, Antus’s guidance helped Malnati to take the second career win at the Copperhead Course and the pro was also exceedingly appreciative to his looper for the support. Talking about the win, the golfer said,, “It’s for my caddie,” as he attributed the win to his fans and family too. However, if you thought, being a caddie is Antus’ only hobby, you’re wrong as the veteran also enjoys a lot of things outside the sport.

On the other side, Antus likes to enjoy spending time with his girlfriend and his daughter. An ideal evening for the veteran caddie may be watching a movie with his family or playing Golden Tee (golf video game) with a plate of Tacos. Antus will be celebrating his first victory in nearly two decades with his family and the caddie-pro duo will soon play their first Masters in the coming weeks, courtesy of the Valspar Championship’s triumph.
