The PGA Tour is always on the lookout for new talent capable to make strides in the world of golf. And their new acquisition, Peter Kuest, is proving his worth by leaving his mark at all his recent tournaments.

In a short span of time, Peter has acquired 10 career wins. In 2020 he won the Utah Open, and during the last season he played in 10 Korn Ferry Tour events out of which he made the cut in five. As the Utah-born golfer is busy making a name for himself in the tough and competitive golf world let’s get to know the rising star of golf better.

Kuest was born in Utah and shared an earlier connection with golf during high school when he went to Clovis West which is a rival high school of reigning golf star Bryson DeChambeau’s alma mater, Clovis East.

Initially, Kuest wasn’t into golf and was a baseball player. But in his freshman year, Kuest ended up with a lot of injuries, and upon the persuasion of others he made the switch to golf. But that wasn’t his exact entry into the sport. Peter was young and instead of paying attention to one thing he showed interest in other things all at once. He would go around fishing, playing soccer, he would ski, or just hand around with his friends. But fate had other plans in store for him. The turning point of his life came one day before his junior year.

Peter came home to find out that his father, who himself is a painter, had laid out some painter’s clothes on his bed with a note that said ‘You can go all-in on something or you can come work for me’. And his father’s attempt to discipline his son worked as Peter chose golf. With luck by his side, Kuest made it to Brigham Young University which launched his golf career.

During college, he won for the Cougars 10 times in four years. Given his performance, his BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank, said some grand things about him “When Peter came here, he wanted to be the best golfer he could be, and he’s done that. He’s given us everything he’s had, worked his tail off, and played some great golf.”

Turning pro during the pandemic and his PGA Tour performances

Peter earned experience as a USGA Junior Amateur. In 2017, he won his first college event, the West Coast Conference Championship. Kuest made a big decision in the middle of the pandemic to turn pro in 2020. He made his debut with the PGA Tour at the Travelers Championship in the month of June.

After that, he quickly qualified to play for that year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic and Memorial Tournament. Although he finished T-5 at the Utah Open he lost his KFT card in 2021. That year he also played on the Challenge Tour. But it was during last year’s Price Cutter Charity Championship that Peter made a big personal achievement as he made a career-low round of 63, and was on T1 after the first round. At the event, he finished at T49 after the final round.

Kuest is currently ranked 789th in the world. Last year he played on the Korn Ferry Tour, but couldn’t make it to the top 125 on the points list. But he has long cherished the dream of making it as a PGA Tour Winner someday. This season he had luck at the PGA Tour Monday qualifiers. Two months ago he qualified for the AT&T Byron Nelson where after a tough competition he finished on T14. He also played at this year’s RBC Canadian Open. And he is now shining at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
