Hold your breaths because the end is near, golf fans! The 2024 Zozo Championship which took off on 23 October is set to conclude tomorrow at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club. The field is filled with amazing players like Nicolás Echavarría, Justin Thomas, Megan Greyserman, Nate Lashley, and Kevin Yu, and currently, Echavarria is on the top of the leaderboard with a score of 17 under par. Do you think he will win?
Well, many believe so, all thanks to his caddie Fabian Azcarate. The duo is playing exceptionally well in the tournament and has managed to climb the leaderboard by surpassing some of the best players on the field. Even the PGA Tour took it to their X account to praise Azcarte on his amazing performance in the 2024 Procore Championship which took place in September.
According to the PGA Tour, the caddies stole the show at the Procore Championship, and Fabian Azcarate who was the caddie for Nico Echavarria, emerged victorious in the caddie closest-to-the-pin competition. “The loopers can swing it 💪 Fabian Azcarate, who’s on the bag for Nico Echavarria, knocked it to less than two feet to take home the W in @ProcoreChamp ’s caddie closest-to-the-pin competition”, read the caption.

Azcarate has been caddying for the golfer for quite some time now and credits the Golf Futuro Foundation for important milestones in his career. “The Foundation gave me the opportunity to attend the first Trackman seminar in Latin America, to be in a PGA TOUR tournament for the first time and to continue enriching my knowledge of golf. I have been able to experience this thanks to the Golf Futuro Foundation”, he said in Spanish. With support from the Foundation, Azcarate has gained invaluable expertise and exposure, which helped him grow as a golf caddie and contributed to Etchavarria’s success on the green. As the sun set on the third round of the Zozo Championship and the players gave their all for the coveted title, there was one player who stood tall with his tap-in eagle on the 18th hole securing a two-shot lead over rival Justin Thomas. The crowd held its collective breath as Echavarria sunk the eagle and ended the thrilling round.
“I mean, that’s the way you want to finish a round,” said the Colombian golfer, coming off the high of the glory of his impressive finish. His path to the top wasn’t without its challenges, however. The back nine proved testing with a bogey on the 9th hole threatening to derail his momentum. But Echavarria didn’t give up. “I started getting shaky on the back nine… But we finished the round as well as we could,” he reflected. An amazing save on the 12th hole and that stunning eagle on the 18th ensured Echavarria’s grip on the lead remained firm and that’s how the golfer won the showdown with Thomas.
