The Canadian professional, Nick Taylor, has more than a decade of experience in his professional career. After turning pro in 2010, he has managed to register a total of four professional wins, three of which came off the PGA Tour and one on the Gateway Tour. Although he was able to clinch the victories as a result of his hard work and determination, it’s not as if that was all that helped him on the greens. Enter his caddie.

The amount of support he received on the course would have undoubtedly played a major role in the performances he was able to dish out over the years. It becomes natural, then, for the community to become curious about the Canadian looper who has been helping him out on the bags.

Although it is unknown the exact date that the PGA Tour pro joined hands with David Markle, more popularly known as Dave Markle, sources say they started their partnership in the fall of 2022. The looper hails from Shelburne, Ontario, Canada. Interestingly, the bagman himself boasts a deep history in the sport of golf.

The golfing side of Dave Markle

The athlete-turned-looper was one of the most talented amateur golfers from the country of Canada. Fascinatingly, he played the game at the collegiate level at Kent State University. What’s more, back in 2008, he was ranked as high as No. 12 in the world by the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings, owing to his immense talent and skills on the course. In the same year, he became one of the only three players from the country to be chosen for the World Amateur Golf Team Championship (WATC), which was to be held in Adelaide, Australia.

Markle was, and still is, a very enthusiastic person when it comes to golf. Commenting on his selection for the WATC, he exclaimed, “I’m really excited,” before continuing, “I was relieved more than anything when I got the call.” Adding on, he said, “It’s been a goal of mine for the past couple of years, and I’ve worked hard to achieve it,” all the while dubbing it as nothing short of “a great honor to represent Canada.”

Was that all of his achievements as a golfer? Not at all. After proving himself to be talented enough to turn professional in 2008, he was part of the Canadian team that won the Four Nations Cup back in 2009, won the Mandarin Tour’s first 2-day event at Grey Silo back in 2014 with a score of 7-under, and emerged victorious at the 15th season of the Great Lakes Tour Shootout in 2016, among others. Moreover, he also competed on the PGA Tour Canada and the mini-tour circuit.

Throughout his professional career, the golfer was able to play in around 15 events while making the cut in six of them. What’s more, he also qualified for the 2008 RBC Canadian Open on Monday with a figure of 66 while playing alongside, all the while outperforming his longtime friend Mike Gligic by four strokes. Surprisingly, in 2019, the athlete came back to the tournament, but as a looper carrying the bags for Gligic. He had turned to the bags for his friend after they reconnected the same year at the Web.com Tour Qualifying School. It is quite clear that Markle is genuinely enthusiastic about golf; surprisingly, it’s not his only area of interest.

The artistic side of Markle

The Instagram handle of the professional caddie is filled with beautiful pictures taken by himself. From close-ups of various people in their natural elements to vertical visuals of beautiful scenery, the aesthetic domain of the Canadian caddie boasts an exceptional artistic side to the athlete. His bio in the Instagram profile itself says a thousand words about his snaps: “Portraits. Of strangers. Living life…”

Moreover, he was also part of the cast of the 22nd season of Big Break Myrtle Beach, along with six men and women. The contestants came together to compete for rewards, including $100,000 and an exemption from the 2015 Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour for male athletes and the 2015 Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour for female athletes. But, artistic talents aside, Markle also has a philanthropic side to him.

Unfortunately, in 2011, the looper was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. However, he did not let it hinder him, as he went ahead to raise awareness about the chronic condition by raising funds for research and providing opportunities to people suffering from it. Following the same, in 2014, the athlete founded the ‘Dufferin DiabeTees Day of Champions’ to support the Canadian Diabetes Association summer kids D-Camps, a national camp for children suffering from type 1 diabetes.
