Will Nelly Korda once again face disappointment at the U.S. Women’s Open? This season, the World No. 1 player won six out of eight championships she participated in. However, after the conclusion of the first round of the US Women’s Open, she recorded one of the worst scores of her career.

Korda recently took a little trip down memory lane when she came across a video of her from the US Open 2016. Watching the video, she was shocked to see her form, which was so out of shape. But a little guidance from Jamie Mulligan on her posture made all the difference. Korda was training under Mulligan back in 2021 but they parted ways in 2023.

Mulligan prioritizes quality over quantity, so he shifted his focus only to a few players and made them ace their game. One of the lucky golfers was the PGA Tour Pro Patrick Cantlay. “When I took the CEO job at Virginia 20 years ago, it became advantageous not being able to coach everybody, and not wanting to. I just wanted a few people in my stable to focus on the quality of what we were doing,” said Mulligan.

Mulligan wanted to focus more on quality than quantity, so he shifted his focus only to a few players and made them ace their game. Among them, the PGA Tour Pro Patrick Cantlay was one of them.“When I took the CEO job at Virginia 20 years ago, it became advantageous not being able to coach everybody, and not wanting to. I just wanted a few people in my stable to focus on the quality of what we were doing,” said Mulligan.

This limited his work with Korda, which resulted in a no-win 2023 LPGA Tour for her. However, Nelly Korda is now back with Mulligan for this season and well, she has been creating history with the best! Here’s all you need to know about her swing coach.

Jamie Mulligan is a PGA of America member and PGA teacher. He has also been the chief executive officer of the Virginia CC in Long Beach since 2000. Mulligan has been pretty much an efficient teaching pro, associated with players like John Merrick, John Mallinger, Luke List, Mo Martin, and many more. However, he never really got the recognition he deserved until he started working with Patrick Cantlay. He began appearing on television and started getting more calls from golfers to fix their swings.

Having Mulligan on her team has been the change that the 2X Major champion needed this year. Unlike last year, she has had Mulligan on-site to make sure that her swing is in proper form. And with that, Korda managed to break her record of four wins in 2021, this season. Jamie Mulligan has not only been a treasure just for Nelly Korda’s gameplay, but he has also been able to manage her team efficiently, mostly in times of crisis.

Jamie Mulligan’s ‘aura’ helps the entire team stay calm

Nelly Korda has never shied away from giving due credit to her inner circle when asked about her stellar performance. She has time and again stated how they have played a crucial role in handling the pressure, especially her coach, Jamie Mulligan. The swing coach has a peculiarly laidback aura, which has helped in keeping her team calm and confident. According to Korda’s caddie, Jason McDede, he makes even the most tumultuous situation look like just a tiny obstacle.

Additionally, Mulligan has also helped Nelly Korda and McDede create a strategy for the 2024 Chevron Championship and she did bag the victory at the Carlton Woods! “When he looks at you to be locked in, then you’re locked in. It’s a mutual respect on the team right now. Everybody respects everybody’s role. And I think that’s huge,” confessed McDede.

Nonetheless, something went wrong at the Lancaster Country Club. And now the question is, will the duo be able to grab the third major title for her? Stay tuned to find out!
