In the past few years, Megan Khang has earned an excellent reputation for herself in the golf world. And 2023 has proved to be a terrific season for her. She has recently made a T9 finish at the Amundi Evian Championship and the Chevron Championship a few months ago. She performed even better and made it to T3 at the Women’s PGA Championship.

In the last two years, Khang has made top 20 finish in 13 LPGA tournaments. Owing to her spectacular performance, Khang has not only earned substantial prize money but has also earned the attention of fans and media alike.

But how did she reach here? Just like other LPGA comrades, Megan Khang also had to cover a long journey. She has been playing golf for many years. Let’s look at the young golfer’s impressive portfolio.

Early days and amateur career stats

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts in 1997, Khang learned golf from her father. She was a bright player from a young age. When she was 14 years old, she qualified for the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open. Megan Khang is the first player of Hmong and Laotian descent to play on the LPGA Tour. Initially, she spent many years playing on the U.S. Challenge Cup Tour in New England. Her amateur career was an impressive one. She has been shining at several tournaments from an early age.

As an amateur, she won the Northern Junior Championship in 2012. In 2013, she won the PING Invitational, Faldo Series Grand Final. A year later, she won the Doral-Publix Junior Classic, and the Eastern Amateur Championship in 2015.

She was also the low amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open with a T35 finish. She helped Team USA win the Junior Solheim Cup and was the only player to go 5-0. In 2015, she made a T-6 finish at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament and earned the LPGA Tour card for the 2016 season. She has been playing on the tour ever since.

Year-by-year analysis of Megan Khang and her professional career

After joining the LPGA Tour in 2016, Megan Khang attempted 28 events that year out of which she made the cut in 17 events. She earned a total of $336,016 from her finishes.

In her first year alone, she made two top-10 finishes. She came second in the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race. Megan Khang made her career-best T4 finish at the JTBC Founders Cup.

2016 was full of sweet delights for her as she scored a career-low 64 during the second round at the LOTTE Championship. Next year in 2017, she made the most starts (32) of any player on Tour. Moreover, she made 23 cuts and recorded four top-10 finishes.

In 2018, she improved her major stats and made her best career major finish at the U.S. Women’s Open on T10. That year she also crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings. 2019 was great for her as she played in the United States Solheim Cup team, which made a record of 0-2-1. Megan Khang again joined the Solheim Cup team in 2021.

That year she made her career-best seven top-10 finishes and best career major finish on T8 at the Evian Championship. Financially, the year was great for her as completed the $2 million mark in career earnings.

Best career finish and a long list of sponsors

And though in 2020 and 2021 the pandemic reduced the number of tournaments, Khang displayed her top-notch skills there too. In 2020 she finished solo on the fifth spot at the U.S. Women’s Open, which was her career-best result in a major championship, and ranked 17th on LPGA in driving accuracy of 79.25. In 2021 she again made three top-10 finished. So far Khang has her best result in 2022 at the Dana Open where she finished the final round in second position which was one stroke behind winner Gaby López.

Thanks to her streak of impressive performances, Kang has a long list of sponsors at such a young age. She proudly displays their names on her Instagram handle as well. Mutual of Omaha, PXG, UKG, and RSM have sponsored her. Her other sponsors include Demand Science, Tournament Solutions, Titleist/FJ, Viva Beverages, and Abacus Sportswear. Other than her accomplishments, Khang is also famous for her magnetic personality and light-hearted nature.

The young golf star is in search of her LPGA win, and sooner or later she will achieve it.
