Back when the Korn Ferry Tour was still known as Web.com, Max Homa was debuting for his professional games. That’s when he called Joe Greiner to caddie for him, and the duo ended up in 9th place. But that wasn’t the first time they were acquainted. The caddie first met the pro golfer back when Homa was roughly 6 years old. They build a friendship that has stood the test of time.

Joe Greiner is more than just a bagman. The caddie had dreams of making it on the professional circuit as a golfer during his early years. The College of the Canyons alumnus played golf in school as well as on his college team. He even made a brief appearance by invitation on the Professional Mini Tour. He even stated his love for the game, saying, “Everything in my life was golf. If I wasn’t playing it or practicing, I was thinking about it.”

Sadly, his professional golfing career did not take off as expected. Soon, he transitioned to become one of the experienced and coveted caddies on the greens. He does, however, hold the par-3 course record at California’s Vista Valencia Golf Club where he used to play with his friend Max Homa.

Greiner’s time as a caddie

After the minor appearances on his friend’s bag in 2013, the duo was often seen hanging out at stadiums and taking drives together. Their friendship kept them meeting up and celebrating small achievements even though Homa was working with another caddie at the time.

In 2016. Greiner went on to carry the bag for Kevin Chapell. The duo had two marvelous years together including claiming the title at the Valero Texas Open. When Chapell had his back surgery in 2019, Homa got his friend and confidante back on his bag. The duo has been traveling together since.

Fun Fact: at the WM Phoenix Open, while working with his friend, Greiner may have found his “long-lost twin” in former NFL quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Of course, they are not actually related but the resemblance is uncanny.

Greiner still loves to play golf

Whenever the opportunity presents itself, star caddie Joe Greiner loves to pick up a few fine clubs and practice his swings. Max Homa and his bagman were often spotted playing a few rounds together. Those are a few cherished moments between the golfer and the caddie to not only build on their professional relationship but also to work on their long-term friendship.

Greiner did admit that he likes being involved in the golf games in as much capacity as he can. He helps Homa with his shots, scorecard, and sometimes even choosing the most unique club designs. The PGA Tour Pro heavily depends on his friend and advisor and their bond has developed stronger since they started working together full-time.

Joe Greiner’s family life

The stupendously talented caddie also happens to be a very private person. He closed his Instagram handle and barely ever shares any personal details on his Twitter (now X) account. However, The Caddie Network did share the auspicious news of his wedding in Hawaii on 12th January 2023 with Mayla Greiner.

Her account is also private, however, a post dating back to September 2022 on Homa’s account does prove that the couple may have been dating at the time. The pro golfer posted a picture of himself along with his stunning wife, long-term friend and caddie, and the woman who went on to marry his friend. He captioned it, “First time we had the whole nucleus on site w/ 3 of my closest friends there too.”

Max Homa and Joe Greiner certainly make a stunning caddie-golfer duo and they have been gaining a lot of popularity. His fans hope to see the two friends continue their alliance and keep providing laughs despite their competitiveness when playing against each other.
