Matthias “Matti” Schmid is a name full of promise and potential in the fast-paced world of golf. Matthias Schmid was born on November 18, 1997. Having established a strong base throughout his amateur career, the German golfer made a smooth transition to the professional ranks. He represents a new generation of golfers who are ready to leave their mark on the world stage.

His career has been shaped primarily by his decision to attend the University of Louisville to further his golfing skills. He played collegiate golf for the Louisville Cardinals from 2017 to 2021. While in college, he also won Old Town Club Collegiate in 2018 and won the European Amateur title twice, in 2019 and 2020. After leading his college team in 2021, he finally went professional in 2021.

In 2021, he also won the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award. Schmid then joined the PGA Tour in 2023. He has been able to make 16 cuts in his 43 starts and has had four top-10 finishes so far. Even though he only played professionally for a brief period of time, he has had a substantial influence on the golf world.

His 2024 season performance so far includes one top-10 result that came at the Puerto Rico Open. He has competed in seven events so far and sadly missed six cuts. His 140th-place ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking is another evidence of his rising stature in the game. In his 43 starts, the golfer has earned $1,279,425 from the PGA Tour.

What does Matthias Schmid dream of?

Matthias Schmid’s professional trajectory is anything but typical, even though he hasn’t won any championships yet. His best finish came at the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship, where he finished at T3. His FedEx Fall Cup rating of 121st and FedEx Cup ranking of T149th indicate his consistent ascent through the ranks, indicating a bright and motivating career trajectory.

The player, who has only played on the Tour and its European counterpart, has hopes of someday playing for Germany and proudly representing his country at the Olympics. He seems to admire the team spirit and love his country. In his words, he is ready to “give it” his “best.” But what is he up to now?

Currently, the golfer is teeing up at THE PLAYERS Championship 2024 being held at the TPC Sawgrass, where he has performed considerably well. He has climbed the leaderboard to an 8-under-136 following the second round of the championship and sits at T6.
