Has Marco Penge had a successful career in the European circuit? The 26-year-old showed a lot of promise in the 2023-24 season of the DP World Tour after bagging 5 top-25 finishes. His performance at the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Championship was particularly impressive, as he finished at T4 with a score of 10-under 278.

Things were only getting better as Penge had a great start to the 2024-25 season after finishing at T27 at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open. He has not won a DP World Tour event yet, but the way he was playing, it seemed like he was getting close to getting his first win. While the Englishman may have gotten in trouble recently for the gambling policy breach, the suspension does not necessarily mean his career is over.

Yes, one of Penge’s off-course activities has caught the attention of the DP World Tour officials, but he still has a lot to look forward to in life and golf. The English golfer can enjoy the time off with his family as the confirmation of the duration of his suspension still hangs in the balance.

Back in June 2024, Penge announced that he and his partner, Sophie Penge, had a child named Enzo. So, the suspension of three months or more will allow him to stay close to his family and watch his baby grow older. These are precious times for the Penge family, and the short break from professional golf might just be a blessing in disguise for them.

Having said that, how did Marco Penge get suspended by the DP World Tour? Let’s take a closer look at his breach of policy.

The DP World Tour has a very strict regulation in its Integrity Programme that states “No Covered Person shall either directly or indirectly bet or instruct any other person to bet on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any professional or elite amateur golf event anywhere in the world.” This came into effect when the officials learned that Marco Penge had breached the policy and placed a few bets on golf events. As mentioned in the official statement of the DP World Tour, “Penge’s breaches merited a three month suspension with one month suspended for a period of 12 months pending further breaches of the Programme.”

However, they also clarified, “Penge did not bet on himself or on the progress of tournaments during days when he was participating, leading the panel to find that the integrity of such events had not been compromised,” confirming that Marco Penge had not manipulated the results of an event. They further mentioned “The suspension took effect on 13 December 2024 and Penge can return to DP World Tour participation from 13 February 2025 onwards. He was also fined £2,000,” which gives Penge a realistic date of making a return to the DP World Tour. That’s just a couple of weeks before the start of the 2025 SA Open at the Durban Golf Course. That’s where fans can probably see Marco Penge return to the course.
