Perhaps it’s the end of caddie trouble for Tiger Woods. The veteran golfer, after employing his business associate in the Hero World Challenge and his daughter at the 2023 PNC Championship, might have found a new caddie in John Wood. Reports indicate that while Rob McNamara might be a choice at the Genesis Invitational, a tournament he hosts, John Wood can fill in for other tournaments.
Undoubtedly, floating John Wood’s name has surprised many. Although he has never worked with Tiger Woods, the Sacramento native knows his game well. Moreover, the veteran caddie turned golf analyst is known to share a good bond with the 82-time PGA Tour winner. What’s more, Wood has also served as an on-course analyst for NBC. Who is the caddie with the most versatile talent?

The veteran caddie was on the bag for Kuchar when the 45-year-old netted a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics. Wood has also witnessed the 2008 Ryder Cup victory inside the ropes with Hunter Mahan. It was also with Mahan that Wood got to know Mr.T from up close.
Early this year, on the Book of Joe podcast, the veteran caddie spoke glowingly about Woods’s preparation. “He (Tiger Woods) gave the same amount of attention to as the 7-iron he needs to hit at Augusta to win the golf tournament. So when he gets to that shot at Augusta, he’s not nervous; it’s the same feeling.”
The job for Wood will be neat and clean if he pairs up with the former World No. 1. It will also mark his return to the greens as a bagman after he left the job for a new role in 2021.
Caddying is not Wood’s only forte

John Wood, after caddying for two decades, joined as NBC’s on-course analyst two years ago. Wood first displayed his flair for reporting when he picked up the mic for the 2015 RSM Classic. It didn’t take long for the veteran caddie to establish himself as one of the top commentators.

What made Wood different was his on-course experience as a looper. Rather than reiterating what happened on the course, the veteran analyst was more focused on explaining the choices behind every shot. He followed his friend, Jim “Bones” Mackay, when he joined NBC. And if he leaves to be a caddie once more, he will yet again be following Mackay’s footsteps, who left his analyst role to be on the bag of Justin Thomas last year.
