Day and his wife, Ellie, are truly a match made in heaven. The Australian golfer met her when he was just 17 years of age. At that time, she was waitressing in a restaurant in Ohio. Despite their 2005 meet-cute, the couple didn’t go on their first date until two years later. So, how did their first date go? The beautiful couple ended up catching a horror film and having dinner at Applebee’s.

While both of them have been smitten with each other for over ten years now, it took some time for Day to win the heart of his father-in-law. In an interview with the Mansfield News Journal, Ellie’s father, Tom Harvey, confessed that he had his inhibitions about the golfer in the beginning. But his apprehensions slowly ebbed away, and his daughter ended up marrying Jason Day in October 2009. The ceremony took place at a barn in Bellville, Ohio.

Ellie was right by her husband’s side when he won the PGA Championship in 2015. She was also there to celebrate when Day basked in other memorable victories, including the Players Championship title, one World Golf Championship win, and two FedEx Cup playoff titles, among others. One of the most iconic moments in their lives came when he reached World No. 1 on the Official World Golf Rankings in September 2015.

The couple has also had their fair share of ups and downs. In 2013, several of Day’s relatives in the Philippines sadly passed away during Typhoon Haiyan. Meanwhile, in 2015, Ellie sustained injuries during a match between Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunders in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena. Meanwhile, Day has also greatly suffered because of his chronic back pain. The golfer’s back-related troubles have seen him withdraw from quite a few golfing tournaments. However, despite their challenges, the pair have been there for each other through thick and thin.

Day and Ellie share four children together

Since their nuptials in 2009, the couple have gone on to welcome four children into the world. Their oldest son, Dash, was born in 2012. Their second child, Lucy, came into the world in 2015. Day and Ellie also went on to have two more sons, Arrow and Ozzie, in late-2018 and 2021, respectively.  37-year-old Ellie also suffered a miscarriage in 2017, a devastating experience she has talked about on social media.
