Standing 6’4 ft high, Davis Thompson certainly receives much attention in the course. However, that is not all he has to offer. Although only 24, he has already played 56 official PGA Tour events, out of which 43 are being counted since last year. The golfer who ranked 1st in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for two consecutive years, 2020-21, has managed to score as high as T15 this season. With much confidence and skill along with 96th FedExCup Standings and 127th OWGR rank, the young golfer is trying to win his very first PGA tour.

Born on June 5, 1999, in Auburn, Alabama, Thompson expressed his passion for golf since his early teenage. Although he played basketball in school for a brief period, his love for golf showed from the beginning. Believe it or not, he even had taken his high school, Lee-Scott Academy, to six state championships from 2012 to 2017Thompson has already become a millionaire in his early 20s, with an estimated worth of $1 million as of February 2024. After celebrating his high school’s name in 2017 at the state championship, Thompson decided to keep making his institutions famous. Thus, when he went to the University of Georgia for his degree in sports management, the golfer not only got the title of All-American First Team member in 2020 and 2021 but also achieved the 2021 SEC Player of the Year honor. He took his University to the fourth place in the SEC Championship. Moreover, he also received several honors and scholarships, including the medalist honors in the 2019 Western Amateur, which earned him the George R. Thorne Trophy.

Davis Thompson joined the Korn Ferry Tour right after his graduation and became a professional in 2021. Moreover, Thompson had also shot a bogey-free 9-under 63 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic the same year. Following this, on his 22nd birthday in 2022, he won the REX Hospital Open with a final score of -17 and bagged a whopping amount of $135,000. This was the very same win that earned him the card to play in the 2022–23 PGA Tour.

Not only has Thompson challenged the rookies and other amateurs in his career so far. Astounding as it is, there was a moment last year’s PGA Tour at the American Express when the former OWGR 1st, Jon Rahm, was questioned about Davis Thompson who could have won against him.

Davis Thompson’s great potential

A rookie, Thompson, who had the potential to stand next to Jon Rahm last year at The American Express, received words that vouched for his potential. It also revealed Rahm’s perception of the possibilities of his breakthrough at any moment. In an interview, Rahm had stated, He’s no slouch, obviouslyHe’s done what he’s done. At the end of the day, it’s you against you. You can only control what you’re doing.”

In fact, last year at the American Express, Thompson with caddie Joe Etter, did not hit one or two but five eagles. The massive success and reputation he could have received with a win at the event was only disrupted at the 18th hole. He, unfortunately, missed the 35-foot birdie putt, which could have earned him a 1-stroke advantage in the tour. In the tournament, he ended up being the T2, with a total score of 26-under while Rahm was 27-under. With such an amazing performance on the green, don’t you want to root for the potential that Thompson possesses?

The young golfer is already married, and it is almost going to be a full year around such a milestone in his life. Let us look at his personal life and how he feels about his wife.
