Playing with a family member on the bag can be one of the best things for a pro. Robert MacIntyre can talk all about it as he clinched his maiden victory on the PGA Tour with his fathers his looper. And now Daniel Brown might be on a similar path. The Englishman had taken the 18-hole lead at the Royal Troon Golf Club after carding 6 under 65 in the opening round. The blistering low score might have been aided by his special bag man.
Making his debut at the 152nd Open Championship, Brown has his younger brother, Ben Brown on the bag. And given his expertise in golf as an up-and-coming amateur from Romanby, the younger Brown could assist his brother in things that he couldn’t understand about the Royal Troon’s greens. Despite struggling on the last few holes on Thursday, Brown told Golfweek, “It was hard to read putts, but thankfully he [Ben Brown] knows AimPoint, so I was kind of putting my trust in him for the last sort of like two or three holes.”
Despite a recent injury that sidelined him from playing for the time being, Ben Brown found a way to stay connected to the game by caddying for his brother while he recovers. The younger Brown has been caddying for the 18-hole Open leader for the past few weeks and assisting him to finish better at the DP World Tour event. And his brother was in all praise for his help. Brown proudly said, “He’s good at reading greens, and he’s obviously a good golfer himself. So he can give good advice. To share sort of my first major with him on the bag is nice.”

With Ben Brown’s guidance, the pro might be able to keep his lead after the 36 holes are over and eventually card his first major on Sunday at the Royal Troon. He might become the first-ever golfer to win in his first major start after Keegan Bradley’s 2011 PGA Championship win. In doing so, Ben Brown might become an ace as he knows how to lift the winning trophy!
Has Daniel Brown’s brother cum caddie won any event?
While Daniel Brown charts the ranks on the DP World Tour, his younger brother, current caddie, Ben Brown has been making a name for himself in England while playing for Romanby Golf Club. Brown has been selected as a member of the 2024 England Men’s and has been playing there for the initial 2024 season.

Although the younger of the Brown brothers has not yet claimed a title in the 2024 season, the past two years have been pretty good for him. In 2023, Ben Brown was against the Seminole’s Tyler Weaver in a playoff to win the England Amateur Championship. After making par in the first playoff hole, Brown shot a scintillating birdie and won the England Amateur Championship becoming the second person in his family to do so after his brother’s victory in 2016.
Two years ago, Brown won the 2022 U18 Fairhaven Trophy in Blackpool, England. As a talented golfer, he also wanted to play at the 152nd Open Championship. However, after failing at the Final Qualifying, Brown accepted his brother’s request to be his bagman. Regardless, both of them may now go on to take their first major victories, one as a pro and another as a caddie. It remains to be seen if the Brown brother magic will work out till Sunday on Royal Troon or not.
