Chris Kirk was able to break his long-standing winless drought of seven years with a victory coming off the 2023 Honda Classic. He has 5 wins on the PGA Tour and 3 on the Korn Ferry Tour, which are but an example of his hard work and determination. With the American golfer set to take on what could be his second win in the season, let us take a look at the person who directs the golfer on a smooth journey on the course, and the one behind his success – his caddie.

16 years after turning professional in 2007, Kirk has been slowly building up his performance despite not securing a win for a while. Nevertheless, with the victory that came off earlier this year, the golfer is expected to increase his confidence which can propel him toward the top spot on the PGA Tour. Though the recent rise is truly praiseworthy, his caddie also deserves to be lauded for his assistance. Let us take a look at the person who’s been carrying the bag for the American golfer.

Kirk usually follows a system where he changes his caddies on a regular basis. He used this method during the last year he played on the Web.Com Tour in 2010 and in the first year of his PGA Tour in 2011. He then decided to keep Scott Tway as his looper for a year before deciding to go back into the system of caddie rotation.

But now, Michael Cromie is the person who is carrying the bags for the pro golfer. Although Chris Kirk has followed a system of caddie rotation where he tends to change them at regular intervals, something about the current looper must have caught his eye as they have been together for more than two years, starting from around June 2020.

Cromie’s life in the game

Cromie, a Georgia Golf alumnus, was introduced to the game at the age of four. But he wasn’t too fond of the game during the initial days. The looper hated golf when he was a kid and only started to get into the game around the age of 8-10 years. He was also into other sports and for a while, he even prioritized those over the current one he takes part in. Michael used to play baseball, basketball, hockey, and soccer which took up a large part of his childhood. His parents were extremely supportive as they went ahead to drive him all over the town of Cary, N.C. to play at various tournaments or events.

Around the age of 11, his father asked the bagman to choose two of the various sports that he was engaging himself with. He chose golf and soccer as he was most passionate about both of them. Meanwhile, going forward, his love for the game of golf grew as he became tired of running in soccer, and he discovered his immense passion for the sport. He later went on to become a part of the Georgia Bulldogs golf team where he had an amazing career.
