Chieh Po Lee, also known as Max Lee, nearly managed to score a hole-in-one in the 17th hole of the final round. He followed that up by nearly scoring an eagle at the 18th. However, Lee only needed two birdies to best his opponents. That’s how you deal with 4th round nerves during a life-changing golf event.
The Taiwanese pro has had a wild ride throughout his career. While we will reflect on it further down below, one thing is for certain, he has made it to the big leagues now. Lee has won the LIV Golf Promotions event at the Riyadh Golf Club and gained a guaranteed contract with LIV Golf for the 2025 season.

The caption read, “Chieh-po (Max) Lee from Taiwan turned pro in 2015. Gained his Asian Tour card. Lost his Asian Tour card. Played various developmental tours across Asia. Re-gained his Asian Tour card. Qualified for International Series events. Won his first event in 9 years in October. Qualified for LIV Promotions. Now he’s just flagged it on the last 2 holes to guarantee a 2025 contract on the LIV Golf League. Awesome story!” This gave a perfect overview of the career Lee has had up till the events in the last few hours.
Chieh Po Lee won his first title in the Asian Tour, the 2024 International Series Thailand in late October 2024. Interestingly, there are quite a few similarities between his performance in Thailand and Riyadh. On both occasions, Lee scored birdies in the final two holes to win the tournament. Back in Thailand, he did it against RangGoats GC’s Peter Uihlein, beating the LIV Golf pro by 1 stroke.
However, his great run of form had already begun in early September as he secured his first top-10 finish of the season. Within a span of 4 months, Lee secured a total of 7 top-10 finishes before participating in the LIV Golf Promotions event. Lee’s consistency has also helped him rank up to 223 on the OWGR leaderboard. It’s worth noting that Chieh Po Lee has also played in 11 PGA Tour China events with his best finish of T3 coming at the 2018 Chongqing Championship.
Lee’s LIV Golf commitments may keep him busy in 2025. However, if the 28-year-old continues to succeed in the Asian Tour, we might see him participate in the majors in the next couple of years. That would be a fairytale story for Chieh Po Lee.
