Technocrat and golfer Al-Rumayyan played at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last month. However, he was not the only one connected to LIV Golf who entered the event. Louis Oosthuizen, Talor Gooch, and Peter Uihlein were also present, to name a few.

The DP World Tour allows LIV golfers to play if they do not have any sanctions on sponsors. For the ‘Africa’s Major’ at the Sun City, Branden Grace, a LIV Golf rebel, is confirmed to grace his homeland and fight for the title he once won in 2017. As he prepares to compete with the PGA Tour golfers, there is a distinctive reason why he was added to the players’ field of DPWT.

Branden Grace joined Saudi Arabia’s PIF-backed league in 2022. He grabbed his LIV Golf victory at the LIV Golf Invitational in Portland – an inaugural event on US soil. Now, Grace is coming back to the DP World Tour on a sponsor’s invitation to contest for the $6 million event.

The 9x DP World Tour winner won the Nedbank Golf Challenge in 2017 with a birdie. This time, with heavyweights like Max Homa, Justin Thomas, and defending champion Tommy Fleetwood in the field, the challenge would be harder for Grace. As per Bunkered.co.uk reports, Grace was exempted from playing at Sun City because there are no pending sanctions.

Additionally, the South African golfer did not hold any membership in the European league in 2023. Similar to how LIV golfers played in St. Andrews and faced no issues. Sun International’s invite has allowed the LIV defector to participate again in the European circuit.

Grace has triumphed on the South African soil five times in his golfing career. If he secures this win at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, it will add the sixth award in his career-long victories. Being the only LIV golfer in the field, Grace is marked to make history. While Grace prepares for playing in the DP World Tour event, the European league, on the other hand, has stopped their players from participating in the LIV Golf Promotions.

However, the notice also included an option for players who wished to participate. It reads, “If you take up membership for the 2024 season and wish to play in any tournament other than the Alfred Dunhill Championship (and which is therefore a conflicting tournament as defined in the regulations), then, in accordance with the regulations and unless the stated exceptions applies, you must apply in writing for a release to play in that conflicting tournament by no later than 8 November 2023.”

Moreover, the acceptance of the appeal will depend on the decision of Keith Pelley, chief executive officer of the PGA European Tour. The Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa coincides with the LIV Golf Q-school, hence the harsh decision from the board. Will DPWT members still join the breakaway league event?
