“I’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of good caddies on my bag,” said an ecstatic Billy Horschel in April 2024. The golfer had just won his eighth PGA Tour title at the 2024 Corales Puntacana Championship. Moreover, he also mentioned how people change over time, all the while swiftly alluding to his caddie, Micah Fugitt.
The golfer couldn’t help but dish out praises for his looper, after helping him clinch the victory by two strokes. He had carded a 23-under 265 over the four days of play at the Puntacana Resort and Club with the support of Fugitt, who resumed working with the athlete after a small break of 6 years!

The golfer’s on-course partner became a professional caddie in 2001. The looper is now in his 23rd year on Tour and has helped numerous players on the circuit including the likes of the late golfer Grayson Murray, Roger Tambellini, Joe Ogilvie, Ben Martin, Stephen Ames, and current LIV Golf Pro Bryson DeChambeau.

Born and brought up in Abilene, Texas, he was introduced to the game of golf through his grandfather. The bagman even recounted playing the sport with his grandfather and dubbed the same as his “greatest golf memory.” However, if one were to ask him about his favorite memory on the bag, then Fugitt would have a different reply, “Being on the bag for Billy Horschel during his amazing FedEx Cup run. He finished 2nd, win, win, on his way to win the FedEx Cup in 2014.”
The good run that Horschel and Fugitt had, and still has
The Texas native was apparently employed by Billy Horschel in 2012 following which they had a good run of 5 and a half years. The looper had helped the golfer win multiple events on the Tour, with the highlight being the 2014 BMW Championship and the subsequent TOUR Championship, helping him win the FedEx Cup that same year. Before the two victories, he had also supported the athlete in raking in a T2 finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
However, come 2017, the two were spotted splitting up after which the now-37-year-old employed Mark Fulcher on the bags. “Billy told me he needed to change things up,” divulged Horschel back then, “Sometimes a fresh start is good for the player and caddie.” And good enough it was, for Fulcher helped the PGA Tour Pro clinch many victories, including the 2021 BMW PGA Championship.
Their run came to an end in May 2023 when the American professional teamed up with his old caddie, Fugitt, once again. The result? He managed to clinch his eighth PGA Tour win in the Dominican Republic despite a small slump. “I was fortunate enough that Micah agreed to come back on the bag last May,” admitted Horschel before adding, “He’s been unbelievable. Micah’s had a great attitude, really energized to work every day, wants to get better. Even when we were playing really bad last year when he came on the bag, he was positive the entire time.”
It’s not a surprise to spot Fugitt positive on and off the course, especially during the bad times. For the bagman had once confessed what the best part about being a caddie was. He said, “Being able to travel the world and getting to meet some great people along the way,” was and still is his favorite part of carrying the bags for any golfer. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy any other sports outside of golf.

Horschel’s caddie, Fugitt’s favorite sports outside the gentleman’s game
“Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Baylor Bears,” replied the golfer’s on-course partner when queried on his favorite sports teams. He was even spotted cheering on the baseball team in their match against the Arizona Diamondbacks which the former won with a dominating margin of 1-6.

He hasn’t just been active on the baseball stands. Horschel’s caddie had also shared an Instagram post while firing up the Baylor Bears in their match against Oklahoma Sooners. However, the result was anything but favorable as the looper’s favorite team witnessed defeat at the hands of their opponents. Nevertheless, Horschel’s fans would surely hope that wouldn’t be the case in his future events as the athlete and the caddie continue to support each other on the greens!
