A good caddie is an essential need for a golfer’s success, and as per common consensus, what happened at Pinehurst with Rory McIlroy is a prime example. And their role goes far beyond just carrying clubs and following golfers. 

They provide them with guidance, support, and encouragement every step of the way. One can term a caddie as a golfer’s trusted partner, and that’s why their importance cannot be overstated. Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri is a prime example, benefiting significantly from his caddie Tim Giuliano’s expertise and support. 

The background story of the caddie: Tim Giuliano

Tim Giuliano was born in Windsor, Connecticut, and graduated from Windsor High School in 2004. His love for golf and family is evident in his comments about his greatest golf memory that she shared with Caddie Network, Tim considers his dad a role model for his love of golf.

Additionally, he labels himself “a husband and a dad first, caddie second.” He is a proud husband and father, stating, “Marrying my wife and being the father to our only child” as his greatest personal achievement.

Giuliano considers himself to be a “Soul Golfer.” He said, “It’s what I love to do, and I do it for the thrill and because I find peace in it. I travel with my clubs every week and try to play as much as I can.” The caddie was a golfer himself at Eckerd College between 2004 and 2008 and initially planned to caddie to make money while continuing to play amateur tournaments.

Breakthroughs and Gaining Interest 

The golf enthusiast enjoyed caddying so much that he decided to pursue it professionally, beginning work at Augusta National Golf Club during the winter. Thanks to a connection through one of the Hartford GC assistant professionals, his caddying career began in 2012 at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. 

Since then, he has worked with several professional golfers, including Brandon Harkins, Tim O’Neal, David Frost, Richy Werenski, Lanto Griffin, and the legendary Jack Nicklaus at Augusta National. He bagged for the legend for three days there and has described it as his greatest memory as a caddie. After a decade of experience, he stepped up and joined forces with Anirban Lahiri.

Joining forces with Anirban Lahiri

Tim Giuliano and Anirban Lahiri’s collaboration began in the 2021–22 season, a partnership that soon proved fruitful. Within a year, they secured a remarkable second-place finish at the 2022 Players Championship, narrowly missing the top spot by one stroke to Cameron Smith. This impressive result earned Lahiri a significant $2.18 million.

Giuliano almost helped his new boss secure a tabletop position at the LIV Golf Invitational Boston in September 2022. Lahiri ended up finishing T2, though, after Dustin Johnson won the playoff with a superb eagle. Moreover, there were two runner-up finishes in the 2023 season at LIV Adelaide and Bedminster, along with a third-place finish at LIV Chicago. 

However, in the 2024 season, he could help him finish at T-6, two times in Jeddah and Houston. But as of July, the pair had been on top after Saturday’s play with a two-stroke deficit of Tyrell Hatton. He managed to register figures 69 (-2) and 66 (-5) to score a 7-under. Now, moving on to his choice if he wouldn’t caddie.

However, in the 2024 season, he could help him finish at T-6, two times in Jeddah and Houston. Giuliano’s alternate career choice 

Before becoming a caddie, Giuliano had held several professional roles. He worked as an air export intern with UPS, a bank teller with Webster Bank, and a valet parking attendant. If he weren’t caddying, Giuliano’s alternative career choice would be in the import and export industry.

Outside of golf, Tim Giuliano is a fluent Spanish speaker, and when he’s not on the golf course, you can find him hitting the ice for a game of hockey, riding the waves and surfing, or creating masterpieces in the woodworking shop. He is also a music lover, playing his guitar and making music, and practices Capoeira with skill and agility. 

He enjoys spending quality time with his family and is an adventure seeker. This led him to explore 21 countries and counting; his adventures include running with the bulls in Spain, exploring the ancient Great Pyramid, backpacking through Europe and Morocco, and surfing the waves in Hawaii. Tim Giuliano’s diverse interests and experiences make him a unique and fascinating individual.
