In golf, success isn’t just about the player—it’s a team effort between the golfer and their caddie. And Aldrich Potgieter proves it. At just 20 years old, the South African has already made waves. After leaving the amateur game in 2023, he shot a stunning 59 at the Astara Golf Championship. Potgieter’s journey continued with his first professional win at the 2024 Bahamas Great Abaco Classic. This victory helped him secure a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he earned a coveted PGA Tour card.
Potgieter quickly made his mark. At the Farmers Insurance Open, he finished T15. But who has been alongside him during this rise? In 2022, Christiaan Maas stepped in as Potgieter’s caddie for the prestigious Royal Lytham & St. Annes tournament. Maas, a talented golfer himself, helped Potgieter shine. After that, Maas caddied for Christo Lamprecht’s victory in 2023.
Other caddies have joined Potgieter’s journey, too. Jake Roos, a pro golfer with six Sunshine Tour wins, stepped in for Potgieter in 2024. Roos’s experience paid off when Potgieter earned a T2 finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Jake Roos, born in Pretoria, was once the top-ranked South African amateur golfer. He turned pro in 2005 and made his mark on the Sunshine Tour, finishing 4th at Q-school to secure his spot.

Jake Roos might be one of the major reasons Potgieter is making ripples across the golf world. And most of it surely is because of his own experience as a golfer.
Jake Roos’s golfing saga
Jake Roos began his professional victory streak in 2008 by claiming the Suncoast Classic title, followed by his success at the Nedbank Affinity Cup in 2009. His third win came in 2012 at the Platinum Classic, where he triumphed over Chris Swanepoel and Anthony Michael in a dramatic playoff. Later that year, Roos captured another Sunshine Tour victory at the Lombard Insurance Classic, overcoming a four-shot deficit with a stunning final-round 63 to force a playoff. He then won the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open in November, adding a fifth Sunshine Tour title to his resume in another thrilling playoff.

Roos continued his strong performance in 2013, winning his sixth Sunshine Tour event at the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open, where he shot a final-round 67 to clinch the win by a single stroke. In 2014, he triumphed at the Barclays Kenya Open, earning a spot on the Challenge Tour for the rest of the season. Later that year, Roos claimed a second Challenge Tour victory at the Aegean Airlines Championship in Germany, which earned him a coveted European Tour card for 2015.
