LIV Golf’s first-ever transfer window is here for the golf world to witness. This would also be the sport’s first transfer window, so to speak. The league had signed a different number of years, and players whose contracts have expired have come into the transfer window.

There are three categories of players who are in the window, and they will receive a different route map to follow further. Apart from the four relegated players, now there are five players who currently don’t have a contract. How does this scheme of player transfers work? Let’s explore that.

The LIV Golf player transfer scheme works like this: The players are divided into three zones: lock zone, open zone, and drop zone. Of the 48 players, the last four players in the current season’s standings fall into the drop zone. These four will undergo relegation and have to find their way back to the league through its special tournament.

The free agents are players in the 25th through the 44th positions who don’t get an extended contract. They will be in the open zone for any of the teams to choose a player to fill an empty spot on their roster. Currently, there are five players who are in the open zone right now.

The list includes Pat Perez from the 4 Aces, David Puig from the Torque GC, Matt Jones from the Ripper GC, and Bernd Wiesberger and Graeme McDowell from the Cleeks GC. The players hold the 28th, 31st, 37th, 41st, and 42nd positions, respectively.

Players in the first 24 positions whose contacts have expired will receive an offer to extend their contract with the current team. In case the lock zone players don’t take the offer, they fall into the open zone with the free agents.

Relegation and redemption of the drop zone LIV Golf players

The relegated players Chase Koepka, Jediah Morgan, James Piot, and Sihwan Kim do have the possibility of stepping into the league again. They will have to compete with non-LIV players who are trying to find their way in.

LIV Golf offers two ways for people to join the Saudi-backed league. The first way is to hold the first position in the International Series. Or the players can try the second option. They can compete in the LIV promotional tournament in December, where if they finish within the top three positions, they can squeeze themselves into the league.
