The PGA Tour announced the names for the Player of the Year Award and the Rookie of the Year Award yesterday. The list includes the names of Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Wyndham Clark. However, the exclusion of Max Homa from the Jack Nicklaus Award surprised many. And surprisingly, he was not the only one overlooked by the Tour with their picks.

The Arnold Palmer Award, given to the Rookie of the Year, predictably included Ludvig Aberg and Eric Cole. However, two big names were surprisingly missing from the list here as well. While the award will be presented at next year’s The Sentry, we look at five players on the PGA Tour snubbed in two of its most prestigious awards.

Five surprise omissions by the PGA Tour for the yearly awards

Max Homa

One of the star performers of this year’s Ryder Cup, the American pro had a stellar 2023. The 33-year-old star had two victories this season at the 2022 Fortinet Championship and the 2023 Farmers Insurance Cup. The Nedbank Golf Challenge winner netted top-five finishes in each of his last five official PGAT appearances, including a 10th-place finish at this year’s Open Championship.

Homa’s snub was undoubtedly a shocker to the American pro’s fans, who, given the season he had, thought that for certain he should have been in contention for the award. And the loyal supporters of the rest of the list that follows undeniably think the same.

Keegan Bradley

The six-time PGA Tour winner won two titles this season, the first of which came early at the 2022 Zozo Championship. Bradley also ranks ninth on the Tour’s money list this season. The 36-year-old had six top-ten finishes. In his last outing at the Hero World Challenge, the American Pro finished in 13th place, tied with Max Homa.

Brian Harman

The 2023 Open Champion has finished in the top ten seven times this season, with three runner-up finishes to his name. The 36-year-old also earned his spot at this year’s Ryder Cup courtesy of a fifth-place finish at the BMW Championship. Harman brought home two points for the team from his four matches.

Taylor Montgomery

Montgomery has made cuts in 25 of the 36 events he played this year. Although he couldn’t taste victory, the University of Nevada alum came close to sniffing the title on his debut at the 2022 Fortinet Championship before finishing in the third despite having a bogey-free final round. The stellar start saw him climb up to the 51st spot on the OWGR ranking from 134. However, a poor run of the show in the middle of the year eventually put him back in the 81st spot.

Thomas Detry

The 30-year-old golfer made his PGA Tour debut five years after turning pro, not via the regular way of cutting through the clutter at the Korn Ferry Tour. Instead, the University of Illinois alum directly qualified for the KFT finals via FedEx Cup points. The Brussels native had a runner-up finish early in his PGAT career at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, netting a further six top-15 finishes, including a 13th-place finish at the Open Championship. In his last outing at the RSM Classic, the Belgian sat in the 28th position.
