Who are the commentators?

Rich Lerner and Dan Hicks will be the play-by-play commentators, helping you follow all the action. Hicks has been a sportscaster for NBC since 1992 and has covered various sports during his career. His most iconic moment as a sportscaster came during the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics, when he announced the USA’s come-from-behind win over France. He also hosted The Olympic Show on CNBC. Hicks has called every Presidents Cup since 2000.

Lerner is also a mainstay on CNBC, having joined the Golf Channel way back in 1997. He might be a familiar voice to many fans, as he also provides play-by-play commentary during the PGA Tour. He hosts Golf Central and Golf Central Live From, the latter being a news program that airs on-site from the biggest golfing events.

Curt Byrum, a former pro himself, will provide an analysis of the holes. An experienced campaigner with more than 15 years as a pro, he will play an important role in helping fans understand the demands and nuances of the various holes on the course. Having joined the Golf Channel in 2001, Byrum has served as both an analyst and on-course reporter for the channel’s coverage of the PGA Tour.

Reporters for the 2024 Presidents Cup

Get closer to the action with the on-course reporting team of Notah Begay III, Smylie Kaufman, Jim “Bones” Mackay, and John Wood. Begay holds the distinction of being one of the few Native American golfers to play at the highest level, with 4 PGA Tour wins to his name. Kaufman is now a recognizable voice in the world of golf, thanks to his podcast, The Smylie Show.

“Bones” Mackay was famously the caddie for Phil Mickelson, a position he relinquished recently in 2024. He is part of the broadcast team for NBC Sports/Golf Channel’s coverage of the U.S. Open. He was also the lead analyst for the Tour’s Mexico Open, becoming the first caddie to do so. He has either caddied or commentated on every Presidents Cup ever held, a remarkable feat that shows his longevity.

John Wood is another famous caddie with a stellar reputation. With over two decades of experience, he has worked with the likes of Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, and Mark Calcavecchia. After retiring as a caddie, Wood joined NBC Sports and Golf Channel, where he initially worked as a reporter.

Analysts and studio hosts

Brad Faxon, Paul McGinley, Brandel Chamblee, and Notah Begay III will provide insight as analysts. All four have immense pedigree and are experienced analysts in their own right, with Chamblee known for his hot takes.

Faxon needs no introduction as an 8-time PGA Tour winner. He was also the putting coach for Rory McIlroy. He appears as an analyst on Golf Central and Golf Central Live. He also worked as a hole commentator for NBC Sports in 2010 and became a studio analyst in 2013-2014.

McGinley’s most significant moment as a golfer came when he was the team captain for the European Team at the 2014 Ryder Cup. He has also been part of the winning team in the competition multiple times. After Paul Azinger parted ways with NBC in 2023, McGinley became the lead analyst at Golf Channel and NBC Sports.

Chamblee is famous for his controversial opinions since his Golf Channel days starting in 2003. From accusing Tiger Woods of rule violations to calling Phil Mickelson’s involvement with LIV Golf “sad,” it will be interesting to hear his takes as the drama unfolds at The Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Lastly, Cara Banks and Damon Hack will be the hosts, bringing structure to the hectic and intensive coverage of the Presidents Cup. Banks joined NBC in 2015 as the host of Morning Drive, a news and lifestyle program. She has since become an interviewer and reporter for NBC Sports’ PGA Tour broadcasts. She is also the studio host for Golf Channel and Golf Central Live. Damon Hack is a host on Golf Today and Golf Central. He is also the on-site reporter for NBC Sports’ PGA Tour coverage. Hack is an experienced journalist, having worked for the likes of The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, and The Sacramento Bee.
