Just like most other established golfing pros, Lucas Herbert fell in love with clubs and balls at a very early age. He was three when he started playing golf and even played junior golf at Neangar Park Golf Club and Commonwealth Golf Club. The Australian player turned professional in 2015 and started playing on the PGA Tour of Australia. He has been a part of several leagues all across the world. Herbert joined LIV Golf in 2024 but did not disclose the exact signing bonus he received.

He expressed satisfaction with the financial aspect, highlighting that while the money was a factor, his decision was also influenced by the competitive structure and opportunities at LIV Golf. However, this season did not turn out to be that great for him. Nonetheless, through thick and thin, there have been two people supporting him constantly in his journey. His loving parents.

Lucas Herbert was raised by his parents, Meredith and Lyndon Herbert, in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. They have supported his journey from his early golfing days to his success on the European and PGA Tours and now on the breakaway league. However, things have not been that great for his family. In 2022, the Herbert family came to know about Meredith being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“It’s sad to watch your parents go through that kind of stuff, but she’s more stubborn than me, so I know that she’ll get through everything and get there at some point,” he said. He made sure that he never missed an opportunity to put a smile on his mother’s face, and that was only by playing good golf. Even after the cancer, all his mother wanted was for him to go and play well so that she could watch and cheer for him on TV. Earlier, it was her traveling all over the world with him to watch him play live. This was what drove him to the 2022 Australian Open, and he very badly wanted to clinch the trophy.

“But I want to win the Australian Open. I don’t want to sit on my couch and watch someone else win it this week,” he said. However, he ended up finishing at T10, and well, his mother was still given a reason to smile through her chemotherapy sessions. For him, his family is everything, and he is willing to go through every mile to make them happy. His responsibility is shared with his father, who has been there through thick and thin.

“My dad’s a great support for her, and I know he will do more than she wants him to do at home, so that sort of takes a bit of the pressure away from me and makes me feel a little bit more at ease,” added Herbert. lucMeredith Herbert was a part of blissful celebrations in Dallas, and it sure did put a smile on her face.

In September, LIV Golf hosted the Team Championship in Dallas, right after the Individual Championship. While Lucas Herbert went as low as 25 on the individual standings, the same was not the case with his team. Ripper GC finished in No. 3 after Dallas, just a few points away from Crushers GC. And well, as it turns out, his entire family was there to celebrate with him.

He posted a video on his Instagram account and wrote, “What it’s all about.” In the video, he came running to his mother right after the game, and they hugged each other. Well, she was not alone. His rumored girlfriend, Maggie O’Shea, was also there, whom he kissed and hugged, which was followed by a hearty congratulations from his father. That is how close the Herberts are.
