Does Hannah Green's success prove that family support is the ultimate game-changer in sports?

In the 6 years since she joined the LPGA, Hannah Green has had quite a few championships to her name. She even managed to capture some PGA Tour championships as well. The 27-year-old has already made a mark in golf, and we are sure we will see a lot more of her victories in the future.

However, her victories are not the only qualities that define her life. It shows that she has a determined but kind character on and off the course. We can always see her smiling during interviews, and we can see that she is proud of herself.

Her personality reflects well on her upbringing, and we have to give credit to her parents for the same. This will be a good opportunity to learn who Hannah Green’s parents are. Well, let’s find out.

Hannah Green’s Family Life

Hannah Green was born in Perth, Western Australia, on December 20, 1996. But that is not where her family is from. Hanna Green’s father, Tau, is from New Zealand. Sue, who is her mother, was born and raised in Fraserburgh, Scotland.

She showed interest in golf from a very young age. Her father is to be credited for the same. He is a golfer himself and he was the one who pushed Green towards golf. Tau also motivated her to pick up her first golf club during one of their visits to the Hillview Public Golf Course. In an interview for Golf Digest, Green said, “My dad is the golfer in the family, so as a kid, I would go out with him on a Sunday morning and walk with him.” Reminiscing about her childhood, she further added, “I was about nine years old, and I was into other sports at the time. One day I decided to hit some shots with his clubs and immediately got the bug.

Having found her passion for golf, Green started participating in junior clinics. And once she got her own golf kit, she admitted, “There would be no stopping me from that point.” She was ready to take over the world of golf with her father’s support and encouragement.

Soon she started training with professional golf coaches. Her coaches also had quite a few positive things to say about the dynamic between them and Hannah Green’s parents. They said that her parents didn’t create any issues for the coaching team, calling them ‘perfect’. They understood the importance of Green getting proper guidance and would always support their daughter in every way necessary. The coaching team was allowed to work on Green’s weaknesses and make her a better player. Her parents made it easier for the coaches to help Green by just letting them do their job. And they did quite a great job considering how great her career has turned out to be.

Hannah Green is grateful for how her parents helped her become who she is today. She has previously mentioned how her father still plays golf. She was quoted saying, “I think he’s got a pennant,” referring to Tau still participating in competitive tournaments, as per Golf Australia on X. After her win at the 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, she was also filmed calling her mom back in Australia to share her joy. She has also spoken fondly of her mom’s side of the family when she was touring in Scotland in 2021.
