Collin Morikawa made headlines when he showed his support for those affected by the Maui wildfire. He shared that not only is it a matter of philanthropy for him, but he derives part of his lineage from the region. The Morikawa restaurant was run by his family in the Maui region and is now shut down. But he still feels connected to it because of his close bond with his family.

Meet Collin Morikawa’s Family
The Californian golfer has a sweet and loving family who is often seen in the audience at the majority of his games. His mother, Debbie Morikawa is a USC alumnus who runs a laundry business with her husband in California. His father, Blaine Morikawa, connects the golfer’s heritage to the islands of Hawaii where his grandparents still reside. The PGA Tour pro also has a brother named Garrett Morikawa with whom he shares an adorable sibling bond.
The 26-year-old golfer’s heritage actually extends from Japan and China. He spoke of wanting to visit the land of the rising sun in particular, and when he did so for the Zozo Championship, he was delighted by the sheer beauty and love exuding from what would have been his homeland. “The fans there could still see that they are similar to me, and there’s a sense of pride in that,” he said.

Debbie Morikawa is a constant presence at all of the tournaments where the pro golfer makes an appearance. She has been a source of support and learning in his life from an early age. The Morikawas raised their sons with values. They taught them the joy of deriving satisfaction from what they have and not asking for too much.
The 2019 Barracuda Champion once said that growing up he never worried about money or not having too much. He had everything he needed and was satisfied. He also mentioned that if he ever needed anything, “I was very lucky to have parents who were able to afford stuff like that.”

How Collin Morikawa’s parents got him started on the golfing circuit
When he was 5 years old, Morikawa’s parents managed to sway the administration at Scholl Canyon’s junior golf camp to allow their son to play. The now-Pro golfer was hardly of age but his incredible talents with the golf club attracted the attention of coaches who saw potential in the young boy.
That began a life-long journey for young Morikawa to enter the PGA Tour with flying colors. Although there were many instructors interested in coaching him, the family settled on an instructor with whom the aspiring golfer felt connected. The constant support from his loved ones and their encouragement for him to pursue his dreams made Morikawa the successful golfer he is today.

Collin Morikawa’s younger sibling, Garrett, is more of a soccer fanatic than golf. He is known to follow many coaches around to learn more about the sport.

The youngest Morikawa did, however, follow in his brother’s footsteps to join the University of California. He studies business marketing and management and will be graduating in 2025.
