For anyone, a nickname is just as significant as a person’s given name. We use nicknames in a friendly, light-hearted atmosphere. Nicknames are used often to conjure up an image of the person concerned, especially if the person symbolizes their nickname in a manner of speaking. Though no one takes ‘nicknames’ seriously, it may be argued that they are an inevitable part of a person’s persona and aid in defining that individual.

Golf World is no exception and is jam-packed with reputable names. Occasionally, players acquire separate names due to their distinctive personalities or playing preferences. McIlroy recently appeared as a guest on the well-known “Dude Perfect” golf-related YouTube channel. There, the hosts and McIlroy tried to break some Guinness world records, like ”Farthest Distance to Hit and Catch a Golf Ball.” McIlroy eventually went on to create a new Guinness World Record for the longest golf shot made with a putter — 255 yards.

The host and McIlroy got into a discussion about golf nicknames, like “The Shark” for Greg Norman and “The Golden Bear” for Jack Nicklaus. The golf world is like a zoo because, when it comes to golf legends, nicknames flow off the tongue as if the speaker is strolling through a zoo. The host asked McIlroy what kind of animal name he wanted for himself.

McIlroy said that the ideal animal moniker would be “The Lion,” since he already goes by the nickname “Roars.” ”My nickname is Roars; yeah, would I go lion?” said the Irishman. McIlroy also recommended that his walkout song should be ”Welcome to the Jungle.”  Given McIlroy’s performance this year, we can’t help but agree with him when he says that he is the Lion of golf. The ”Cheetah” of golf is Dustin Johnson. He earned this nickname due to his game and appearance. His habit of studying courses and implementing fundamental instruction earned Ben Hogan the nickname “The Hawk.” For his effortless approach and rhythm, Ernie Els is ”The Big Easy”.

Although he is a righty, due to his ability to play golf with his left hand, Phil Mickelson is now ”The Lefty”. Golf’s “Mad Scientist” is Bryson DeChambeau, who is thorough and immaculate in everything he does.
