As shocking as the news of the LIV and PGA merger is for everyone, it is no less than a boon for LIV players. With this collaboration, all their desires will be fulfilled, as they will get to enjoy the best of both worlds. And one of the biggest supporters of this news is LIV defector Phil Mickelson, who is thoroughly enjoying it.

For Mickelson, this is a huge cause for celebration. The Twitter buff who never misses a chance to have fun at his opponents had his share of laughs again as, sharing the news on Tuesday, he tweeted Awesome Day Today”. But the billion-dollar merger news also raises other big questions. Perhaps the biggest of them is the possible contention of the likes of Lefty and Sergio Garcia in the Ryder Cup this year!

The merger news is fresh, and lots of information is under wraps about how things will exactly roll. But the amalgamation has definitely opened a lot of doors for LIV players that were closed when they left their respective tours. Garcia currently has to sit out the Ryder Cup this year due to his abrupt resignation and impending fine.

While the Spaniard will not be able to participate this year, it is possible that next year he can compete, depending on his reapplication to the European Tour. Although the Tour itself has stated that this is “highly unlikely”. For Lefty, on the other hand, things are quite different, and they have now been expressing their views about the possibility of seeing Mickelson play in the Ryder Cup once more.

A fan posted a question on Twitter, saying, “Does this mean Phil Mickelson could maybe, possibly still become a Ryder Cup captain someday?” Golf analyst Dan Rapaport took no time in responding and sparking a debate. Lighting the match on the already laid-out gasoline he wrote suggested that seeing Mickelson at the 2025 Ryder Cup was certainly a possibility in 2025 at least. “Phil for Bethpage 2025. Who says no? Would be a movie,” he wrote on Twitter.

Fans flocked to the tweet with their own varied opinions. Mickelson, after all, had won over many hearts during his time on the Tour, and seeing him participate in something as prestigious as the Ryder Cup was definitely a delightful thought to many.

In 2023, the Ryder Cup will be held in the beautiful country of Italy in the last week of September at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome. While Lefty was competing, not many things could stop him from playing at the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in New York at the 2025 Ryder Cup. And fans were certainly loving that idea!

Excitedly, they rallied in support of him and commented on positive thoughts for the future.

But not all were in favor of him playing. Some questioned the LIV golfer’s credibility based on his past involvement with the event.

Other fans suggested he wasn’t good enough to compete.

One fan wanted to see him and his fellow LIV colleague, Ian Poulter, face off at the 2025 international event.

While PGA players are busy expressing their shocked state of mind after receiving this sudden news, Lefty has been uber-cool about it. At the beginning of this year, he made a bold statement about the possibility of playing at the Ryder Cup. He said, “I’ve loved being part of the Ryder Cup as a player 12 times and as a vice captain once. I’ve had more great experiences than probably anybody. If I’m not a part of it, I’m at peace with that as well. And I’m proud of the role I’ve played in that.”
