The ongoing BMW Championship is witnessing competition soaring through unimaginable heights, with numbered seats but numerous contenders. Amongst all the participants, Matt Fitzpatrick seems to be making the strongest statement with his current hold on the 1st spot in the tournament, along with Scottie Scheffler.
Where the tournament lies high on the priority list of golf stars, it’s undeniable that nothing comes close to the Ryder Cup selection at the moment. With the English golfer’s eyes are set on the target at the $20m tournament and the biennial event, his longtime caddie comes forth with a candid opinion. It surrounds the European Ryder Cup Team and the LIV golfers’ presence on it.

Billy Foster, the legendary veteran caddie of the Englishman, with his experience, has as much knowledge of the present golf scenario as anyone could attain. With such familiarity with the context, his comment on the current situation hardly comes as a shock to anyone in the golf world.
His words were aimed directly at the trio of LIV golfers that included Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Sergio Garcia. It entailed the three of them being ruled out of the Ryder Cup due to their shift to LIV Golf. Being one of the prominent presences at every Ryder Cup hosting them, barring 2012, Foster holds strong opinions on the recent happenings around the decision.
The veteran member of the golf community strongly insisted on the unnecessary nature of the ban put on the trio. Yet, he also added how it is important for the team to move on and look at other potential players, per Bunkered.
He, while addressing Lee Westwood’s absence, mentioned the point of how all three of them have been exceptional players, though it is not their records that bring forth the concern. He implied their age to be the matter of focus here, saying, “You can?t rely on Westy because he?s done 11 Ryder Cups and he?s 50“.
Addressing Ian Poulter, Foster mentioned a similar problem, stating how Poulter is 47 right now and surely cannot do better than what he already has achieved. He seemed to continue emphasizing the point on how players after a certain time eventually slow down. At last, while talking about Garcia, he said, “Maybe Sergio would be in the team, but that would be about it.”
Fitzpatrick’s caddie hardly felt like the team is missing out on real potential here. Despite their absence or presence though, the senior caddie will be seen flying to Rome with his golfer in the month of September. This will be his 16th appearance in any form at the competition since 1987.
Despite their replaceable role, Billy Foster advocates against the ban on the LIV golfers
While Foster holds the view that no necessary harm is being caused due to leaving out the aforementioned three players, his stance on the ban continues to remain negative. His reason emerged not only from their Ryder Cup history but also from their contributions to the game overall.
His points surrounded the fact that Sergio Garcia remains the record points scorer for Europe, along with Westwood being fifth on the list. The caddie took no time in rather honestly pronouncing, “What they bring to that locker room is immense, and I wouldn?t have banned them because they should be the next three Ryder Cup captains? and are they going to be that now? Probably not, which is a shame“

Evidently, the experienced member of the golf dynamics expressed what a shame their lack of possibility for the same is. He even defended them in the basic manner of concluding, “Let?s face it, you can?t blame them for playing less golf for more money.”
The caddie was resolute in the belief that their involvement would bring more positives to the table as compared to the opposite of it. At last, though, he gave in stating how the final authority lies in the hands of the people in power and undoubtedly it’s their say that persists.
