It’s not a good time to be Brooks Koepka. Normally, the pro golfer is a stunner, what with his shots extraordinaire and his winning smile. In his personal life, he is thriving. However, his professional life seems to be taking one setback after another.

The former world no. 1 was hoping for a smooth Ryder Cup contention; an auto spot to get him into the prestigious event. However, for the past few weeks, his dream seems to be slipping through his fingers. Now another setback at LIV golf may be the nail in the coffin.

The captain of Smash GC finished round 2 with an even-par that did not amount to much for his team. He shot a 70; a score that had zero impact to improve the position of the 4-player team that is in 5th place. This is a particularly disheartening turn of events for the 33-year old for it is the first time his score did not matter.

This takes Brooksie out of contention for players who had impactful scores in all 29 rounds of the LIV golf season. The remaining two players are Ripper GC’s captain Cameron Smith and HyFlyers GC’s Cameron Tringale.

At any other time, this may have been an everyday news but of late, Brooks Koepka has been in the midst of a whirlwind of tough luck. His Ryder Cup auto spot was already on wobbly grounds and the 3-time PGA Championship winner is already disappointed about that. Now, with the latest setback, he has no ground to stand for a feasible entry into the event.

Additionally, Smash GC’s billion-dollar deal with Nike fell through, which put Koepka’s personal sponsorship with the $200 Billion giants in question as well.

Brooks Koepka’s team took a billion-dollar hit for sponsorship

Earlier in the year, there were rampant rumors that Koepka’s beloved sponsors who also partner with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are about to sign a substantial deal with Smash GC. It would have been perfect for Koepka to extend his personal sponsorship to his incredible team.

However, a sudden turn of events nullified any expectations for the billion-dollar deal. Instead, Smash GC announced their apparel partnership with a million-dollar company, which inadvertently puts the Smash GC captain in a difficult position. Now, losing the score that matters is just another blow to his already faltering position. Of course, he could make up for it in the final round to help the team. However, at a personal level, he is already out of contention for having a streak of 29 rounds.
