As the new year approaches, let us take a look at Knapp’s best performance this year.
Jake Knapp’s thoughts on his only 2024 win
Jake Knapp’s victory at the Mexico Open at Vidanta was a momentous occasion, not just because it was his first PGA Tour title, but also because of the emotional connection he felt with his late grandfather, Gordon Bowley. Knapp’s grandfather had passed away in April after a two-year battle with colon cancer, and Knapp had gotten a tattoo with his initials, GSFB, just below his left bicep. When asked what his grandfather would think of his victory, Knapp said, “He would be pumped. He’d probably say, ‘Yo, dude, good playing. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.’ So, Papa, thank you.”

Knapp’s journey to the top was far from easy. He lost his Korn Ferry Tour status in 2021 and was ranked outside the top thousand in the world as recently as May 2022. However, he persevered and eventually found himself leading the Mexico Open by four strokes entering the final round. Despite struggling off the tee on Sunday, Knapp held on to win by two strokes.
As he reflected on his victory, Knapp noted that his grandfather never would let him get down, saying, “I think that’s one thing that he taught me, was to never give up.” Knapp also acknowledged that his win was a testament to his hard work, saying, “I’ve been working towards this my whole life, and to finally have it happen, it’s just…it’s amazing.” So, do you think Knapp will do just as good in the next season?
