Can Cameron Smith overcome his recent setback and claim victory at the New South Wales Open?

With ambitions of the 2024 Queensland PGA Championship glory, Cameron Smith joined the PGA Australia event last week. He managed to outplay most of the field size to end up with a score of -8. However, he was unable to overcome another tournament favorite and the defending champion, Phoenix Campbell.

But it seems that the unfortunate loss hasn’t deterred Cameron Smith’s goals. As per the announcement he made back in September 2024, we have learned where we will see the 31-year-old play next.

Coming off a third-place finish at the 2024 Queensland PGA Championship, Smith will get another shot at winning on home soil. This time around, we will see the Australian local play in the southeastern state of the country. That’s right, Smith will be a part of the entry list at the 2024 New South Wales Open.

The NSW Open is a prestigious Australian golfing event that was established in 1931. Since then, some of the greatest players have played in the Murray Downs-based golf club to gain vital points on the PGA Australia Tour. This year’s edition will have a field size of 144 players which will include Cameron Smith and Phoenix Campbell. Besides the PGA Australia Tour points, they will also be fighting for a $400,000 purse.

The New South Wales Open venue

The NSW Open will be played at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club. Cameron Smith and other pros will face each other in four rounds of par 72 to determine the winner. The 18 holes are spread across 6,197 meters of land. The Murray Downs Golf & Country Club is considered one of the most magnificent courses in the world. It is also considered the No. 1 golf course on The Murray River.
