Raul Pereda has been having a great run in the Mexico Open so far. The golfer, who has previously appeared on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, is playing on a sponsor’s exemption this week.

Making his PGA Tour debut, Pereda carded an impressive bogey-free  6-under 65 in his first round at Vidanta Vallarta. In his second round, the 26-year-old hit an awe-inspiring shot, stunning everyone. Later, Pereda got candid about his debut appearance, sharing that he “never doubted” his abilities.

Ranked 810th in the world, Raul Pereda is proof that one should never give up on their dreams. During his sophomore year in university, the golfer suffered a back injury, which almost made him hang up his clubs. However, the Mexican golfer recovered and continued to pursue his dreams.

He went pro in 2018 but spent most of his career between the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Latinoamerica, and PGA Tour Canada. At 26, Pereda finally got the chance to play on the PGA Tour, and he has left quite an impression on golf enthusiasts.

I was going to go to Peru this week and play on the Latin American Tour, when I got the call,” he shared. “I prepared myself to know and to really feel that this is the environment where I want to be and where I want to belong.” The golfer also shared that he “never hesitated or doubted himself,” after he delivered a truly inspiring performance on the course.

At the end of the first round, Pereda found his place in the top 10 on the leaderboard. The second round saw the golfer hole out from 249 yards away, inciting cheers from the spectators at the Vidanta Vallarta Golf Club.

Mexico’s Raul Pereda holes out from 249 yards in debut PGA Tour appearance

Raul Pereda had the most impressive debut in front of his home crowd at the 2023 Mexico Open. In his opening round, he fired a sensational 65 to find his place among the top-5. He holed out for an eagle in his second round from a whopping 249 yards using a fairway wood on the par-4 16th hole. Pereda’s sensational hole-out is the longest by any golfer on the PGA Tour this season.

He went on to shoot a 70 in his second round, resulting in a two-round total of 7-under 135. The Mexican kicked off the round at no. 10, birdied no. 11 and no. 12, and bogeyed no. 13 and no. 18 around his eagle-two. At the end of the second round, he was tied at T12.
