For the record, Jordan Spieth is still the second-youngest Masters champion to date. The 13-time PGA Tour winner is still considered one of the best American golfers of the last decade. 2024 wouldn’t have given that impression to anyone, though.

22 tournaments later, Spieth’s key highlights of the season are a strange disqualification from the Genesis Invitational, getting booed at the WM Phoenix Open, and an errant shot that landed on top of the TP San Antonio clubhouse. Blame his wrist for all that. Now that he has done what he needed to do – going under the knife – Spieth is gearing up for a return. So when will tee off next?

For a start, definitely not at the season-opener in Hawaii. The Sentry, the first Signature event of the calendar year, is only reserved for the past winners, and top-50 in the last season’s FedEx Cup leaderboard. Spieth has slipped to 80th. Next on the schedule is Sony Open Hawaii, where the University of Texas alum played five times before, the last in 2023.

Will he make the trip to Hawaii just for one tournament? Unlikely. In 2023, Jordan Spieth was also in the field of the Sentry thanks to his 2022 RBC Heritage victory. That, by the way, we last saw the three-time major winner on the podium. So, that leaves the first event on the mainland, American Express.

Now, Spieth has avoided the La Quinta stop so far, never for once teeing off in the desert. But this year he just might. Spieth currently doesn’t have a place in the signature events. He needs to move up the FedEx Cup or the OWGR (80th) leaderboard to get a spot in the second signature event, AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Before the Tour moves to Pebble Beach, American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open are the only two avenues for Jordan Spieth to qualify. He loves to tee off in Torrey Pines, even though the Rees Jones-designed layout hasn’t favored him at all. Spieth has only one top-20 finish from his seven appearances there.

So, it might as well be that the Texas-born star will tee off for the first time in American Express in order to get the momentum going. But can he? Will his wrist allow him? Well, the latest update from the man himself should cheer you up.

Jordan Spieth has no pain in his wrist

Jordan Spieth underwent wrist surgery in late August. “The operation went smoothly and I’m grateful for the exceptional medical team and support of Annie and my family. Focused on rest and rehab, and I look forward to returning to golf healthy and prepared for 2025,” the former Masters champ tweeted then.

In a more recent interview, the 13-time PGA Tour winner revealed he didn’t feel any pain after the surgery. Appearing at the SiriusXM Podcast, Jordan Spieth said, “It feels good. None of the shots, you know, I don’t really have any problems with it. No pain, no anything.” That’s indeed a shot in the arm for Spieth fans.

The only lingering question is can he get back to his blistering form? He hasn’t hit the range for three months. And, Spieth admitted having considerable trouble because of it. Currently, he is focused on getting the groove back. It remains to be seen what Jordan Spieth can do by mid-January. The American Express tees off on January 16, and the Farmers Insurance a week later.
