Phil Mickelson is a man of many talents. The six-time major winner is not only a superb golfer but also has a knack for storytelling. Phil is clearly witty and funny, and it often shows in his interviews, but Mickelson can also tell a great story. Lefty knew that about himself and started a little series where he would narrate incidents from his time on the PGA Tour with his fans.

As part of his series, he once shared one of the “most interesting moments” that happened to him on the course.

Phil Mickelson witnesses a shocking incident

Back in the 1990s, Mickelson was playing at a par-three course, waiting behind a group on the tee ahead of them. “There was this guy riding a bike down the cart path,” said Mickelson. Another man whacked the cyclist off his bike as he rode past him.

Mickelson and his group rushed over to the two to find out what exactly had happened. Lefty heard the man who had just caused the accident looked at the other on the ground and say, “That’s my bike.” The man on the floor had apparently stolen the other’s bicycle earlier that day.

When the thief realized, he had been caught, he “pops up and runs away” described Mickelson. The owner of the bike, meanwhile, picked up his and rode off. The incident had Phil stunned; he hadn’t expected such a thing to happen to him at the golf course. The golf legend, on the other hand, got a great story for his Phireside diaries.

Mickelson’s first ‘Phireside with Phil’ story

Phil, in 2019, started his prime time on social media. In June, he released the first edition of his series and said he would make this a routine and wrote, “I’ll be sharing some interesting stories that have taken place through the years and will hopefully have some guests in the future too. #PhiresidewithPhil.”

His first story was about a time at the Memorial Tournament in 2006. Lefty and the others had to continue their second round early on the third day due to weather trouble. While Phil was playing at the 6th hole, a tour official was cutting out a new hole ahead. Phil waved out to him and said, “Hey, we’re not done.” The official raised his hand, acknowledged Phil’s statement, and continued to cut.

Phil again yelled out to him, and once again he acknowledged Mickelson but didn’t stop. Phil, who was furious by then, went as close as he could and yelled, saying, “We’re not done.” The official stood up, looked up at Phil in disgust, and said, “Someone took a dump in the cup.” Mickelson apologetically said, “Very well, then, carry on.”
