Why did John Daly call himself a dog?
Daly was once in an interview with Tom Chiarella of Esquire Magazine, where the two talked about how Daly’s life had changed over the years. Chiarella had talked to Daly nearly 10 years prior when he told the interviewer how he was worried about contracts, child support, etc. However, in this interview, Daly claimed to be “90 percent better” than how he was 10 years before this interview happened.
The conversation led the two to a place where Daly admitted that he was indeed a dog. Chiarella asked him on what grounds he was referring himself as a dog. And Daly gave him three solid reasons to believe him. Daly said, “A dog likes his spots. I like my spots. He keeps himself safe. I’m safe in the spots I put myself in. A dog likes patterns. I like the patterns I’m doing now. I didn’t like the patterns earlier in my life.”

Only a colorful character like Daly could go on an interview and compare himself to a dog with his logic. The golfer has seen a lot in his life and has battled cancer to a huge extent. Daly has been very honest about all his problems including his drinking habits and gambling. But at the same time, he has always been respectful of his fans and of the position where he stands today.
What kind of life does Daly want to lead?
According to the golf star, he is leading exactly the kind of life he wants to. “I live a boring life”, he said. “But it’s perfect for me.” Daly doesn’t have many friends in the golfing community. However, his contacts go as high as the former US President, Donald Trump. But he prefers to live a simple life and feels safe in it. “It’s responsible. Social. It’s fun. It’s relaxing,” he said.
