Is the Silverado Resort the crown jewel of golf venues, or is it overrated?

The PGA Tour is back at the FedEx Cup Fall after a 7-day break. The 2024 Procore Championship which features 144 golfers is set to tee off on September 12th. It is all happening in Napa, California at the Silverado Resort (North Course). The cup provides an excellent platform for golfers to compete for titles and purses while improving their FedExCup standings. The first FedEx Cup Fall event has a $6M purse and has 500 points to reward.

According to the PGA Tour website, all the net proceeds from the Procore Championship will benefit non-profit organizations through the Impact Through Golf Foundation Napa Valley, which provides funding to charitable organizations throughout the country, with an emphasis on the greater Napa Valley area. With such an important contribution, let’s read more about the location of the championship – Silverado Resort.

The Procore Championship, known as Fortinet Championship until last year,  commenced in 2007 and the Silverado Resort has been the home of the Championship since 2014. Apart from this, the Silverado Resort also hosts plenty of other events such as the Kaiser International Open Invitational, Anheuser-Busch Golf Classic, Champions Tour, Napa Valley Championship, and Safeway Open (ex-Fortinet). The North Course is a private course that was opened in 1955 and features 18 holes. It also boasts a par-72, 6,793-yard championship layout with 133 slopes and a 72.6 rating.

The North Course of the Silverado Resort features deep bunkers that cause more accurate approaches. Designed by PGA Tour Hall-of-Famer Johnny Miller, and the father-son duo of Robert Trent Jones, and Robert Trent Jones, Jr. the resort also has narrow, tree-lined fairways.

The collaboration of the Procore Championship and the Silverado Resort seems to be working out, but did it become an additional event at the PGA Tour?

Silverado Resort has received plenty of awards

In an annual program conducted by the BoardRoom Magazine in partnership with Forbes Travel Guide, the Silverado Resort was recognized with the Distinguished Golf Destination Award last in August 2023. This award is unique to the industry and gives points based on the facility, management, and staff. While the Silverado Resort looks extremely picturesque, it is safe to say that this award which is based on a proprietary criteria and validation process proves that it is one of the finest in the nation.
