The 2024 Presidents Cup is one of the most awaited tournaments in the golf world, and it’s only fair we learn about its venue’s history. This year the big showdown is going back to the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada, and the golf community is over the moon with the building excitement. Imagine a group of friends who share a passion for golf coming together to create a special place where they can play and enjoy the game. Well, that’s exactly what happened in 1873 when the Royal Montreal Golf Club was born.

The club’s construction was in the hands of Alexander Dennistoun, who was a Scottish immigrant with a love for golf. The club surely started small, but it had big dreams, and as the years went by, the club grew and grew. Its first milestone was recorded in 1884 when Queen Victoria gave the club a royal title. And this was as big of a deal then as it is now. This was a huge honor for the club and its owners, and today, the Royal Montreal Golf Club is one of only 66 clubs in the world with this distinction.

However, the club didn’t stay in one place for too long, but what does that mean? Well, it means that the club moved locations, first in 1896 to Dixie and then to its current home in Île-Bizard in 1959, and each move brought new challenges and new opportunities.

However, one thing stayed the same, and that was the club’s spirit. The designs and architectures evolved with time, which eventually ended up in the epic course we love and know today. In 1891, the club recorded its second major milestone. In 1891, the club welcomed its first female member, Mrs. William Wallace Watson, it may not sound like a big deal, but it was, as women were rarely allowed to join golf clubs back then. The club was making the way for others to follow, and now women’s golf is one of the most loved sports around the globe.
