It’s about time! After a year’s delay, TGL finally kicked off its inaugural season in January 2025. One could argue that its first season was a hit. We saw good viewership numbers, excitement, and some really funny moments. The league is now near its final, scheduled on Monday, March 24, and Tuesday, March 25. Since the start, TGL’s format has been talked about a lot, so it’s only fair, that we discuss the finale format too, because it’s not that simple.
After five group-stage matches per team and the sudden-death semi-finals, it’s New York and Atlanta Drive Golf Club that made it to the end. Like the league phase and semi-final matches each playoff final will have 15 holes. But there’s variety. There is triples golf for the first nine holes where each player will take turns hitting a shot. As for the final six holes, they are singles matches.
In singles matches, three members from each team alternate playing one hole against a member of the opposition before returning for their second go three holes later. Unless there’s a hammer dropped, each hole is worth one point. Obviously, to get a final score, all 15 holes have to be played.

In case of a tie, there will be a sudden-death playoff consisting of a nearest-the-pin competition. Finally, we will have the winner of the inaugural season with each winning member pocketing $2.25 million. Now, the losing team will also walk away with $4.5 million to its name, divided 4 ways among the team members. The action will start at 9 pm ET on Monday as there’s only one fixture. On the second day, the match will start at 7 pm ET on Monday. You can watch TGL via ESPN and ESPN+ in the US while Sky Sports Golf shows TGL live in the UK.
The Texas Children’s Houston Open starts on 27th March, considering it will be hard for Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick to focus here, but Fowler has decided to power through. As for Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young, they are not part of the Texas Children’s Houston Open’s field so they will tee off on Monday. As for Atlanta’s team, Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay are playing on Monday. Tuesday’s lineup will be announced after Monday.
