Remember Chase Koepka’s hole-in-one in LIV Adelaide? Although Koepka’s LIV future hangs by a thread, the famous watering hole celebration will live rent-free in the memories of golf fans. 1200 Miles away from the famous ‘watering hole’ in The Grange Golf Club, the Royal Queensland Golf Course has a similar ‘party hole’.

In the ongoing 2023 Fortinet Australian PGA Championship, the 17th hole attracted a lot of eyeballs for two reasons. First, it was a short par-3 hole like the famous 17th hole of TPC Sawgrass. Secondly, being in the same country, the obvious comparison with Grange Golf Club’s ‘Watering Hole’ was brought up. But what makes the Party Hole so famous?

Party Hole is one of a kind in the DP World Tour

Located on the short 137-yard 17th hole, the party hole is made to enjoy golf in the LIV way. What do we mean by that? Well, blaring music from the resident DJ accompanies every shot taken on the hole. Expectedly, over 400 shots will be taken there.

Moreover, the Champion Stand has 600+ reserved seats. What about the crowd? PGA of Australia expects 3000 fans to enjoy the ‘show’ at the Southern Comfort Hole with full booking on the second and third rounds. The Par-3 hole offers a hospitality suite, food, and public bars for the spectators.

The organizers expected to serve more than 50K drinks over the course of four days. Whereas, the resident DJ will clock 30 hours of music. The stand was meant for celebration. And celebration is what they did with Min Woo Lee. The Australian Pro aroused the crowd with a Viking clap. “Let him cook,” you say.

The obvious comparison was drawn with the Grange’s famous watering hole. The 12th hole on the Adelaide course also has beers, and boisterous fans galore. Does the Queensland Golf Club match up to it?

Watering Hole vs. Party Hole

While the Party Hole is spectacular in its own right, it has yet to match the level of enthusiasm around Watering Hole. There was indeed a hole-in-one in the Party Hole as well. But despite having a public bar, there were no wild beer showers for Curtis Luck. Compared to that, after Chase Koepka’s hole-in-one, the crowd went wild.

Watering Hole’s legacy has become so important that Greg Norman wants to expand the course. There has been no news on whether the PGA of Australia is looking forward to capitalizing on their very own party hole.
