The 2023 season of LIV Golf officially ended with the team Championship at Miami. The new season will only begin next year, and until then, the players will have a break. But before that, the Saudi league is hosting a promotional event that has created much buzz.

As LIV has opened its gates for its opponent leagues, the PGA Tour and DP World Tour it has created chaos among both leagues who at some point fear that they might lose their players. Let us get to know about what is LIV Golf Promotions.

What will happen in the Abu Dhabi LIV Golf promotional event?

Played from 8 – 10th December at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, four rounds of 18-hole stroke play will be played in three days, including 36 holes on the final day. The prize purse for the event is $1.5 million. The first round on Friday will consist of 18-hole Strokeplay, where the top 20 players move to the second round. Those who clear the second round will move to the two final rounds on Sunday.

On Sunday the scores reset from Round 2, 36-hole Strokeplay for the third and fourth rounds will be held. The first prize is $200,000, the second is $150,000, and the third is $100,000. Players who finish in the top 3 will also get promoted to 2024 LIV Golf. Players from the 4th -10th spot which also includes ties will receive full exemption for all International Series events in 2024.

For the Abu Dhabi event, LIV Golf has extended its invitation to the players who have previously participated in the Palmer Cup, Walker Cup, Ryder Cup, and the Presidents Cup. More importantly, golfers of the DP World Tour and PGA Tour could also enter. But the event has generated some big and unexpected responses from its contemporary leagues who haven’t forgotten the earlier betrayal by many of their players.

What is the response of the DP World Tour and PGA Tour?

While the PGA Tour has granted permission to its golfers to participate in the Abu Dhabi event as long as it is just for this one time with no strings attached, the DP World Tour differs. The European league has issued a stern warning to its players that if they participate next month then they could be charged with fines and face suspension.

The memo also says that if they take up membership for the 2024 season and wish to play in any tournament other than the Alfred Dunhill Championship, then they must apply in writing for a release to play within 24 hours. With its previous loss, DPWT is in no mood for negotiation this time.
