Pro Shop’s name has been making the rounds in the golf world recently. But what is this company all about? Well, Pro Shop is a new and emerging media and commerce company focused primarily on connecting the game of golf to mainstream media and culture.
Recently, the ‘Full Swing’ EP Chad Mumm and former Puck CEO Joe Purzycki-led enterprise have managed to amass a massive sum of $20 million in funding from the PGA Tour and Powerhouse Capital in their efforts to grow the game. They aim to create Pro Shop Studios alongside other media and commerce businesses that will help fill the void in the market for a fan-centered enterprise.
Further, if the Netflix series Full Swing is renewed for another season, the Pro Shop will be one of its sponsors. The company has taken the success of the Netflix show as “confirmation of golf’s loyal and massive following.”

The highly funded enterprise is set to have its offices based in Los Angeles and New York. But can the Tour’s preferred Hollywood partner’s relationship with golf be compared to any other sports world counterparts?
How can the Pro Shop’s relationship with the PGA Tour be illustrated using the NFL example?
The Pro Shop has compared its existence in the golf world to the existence of Skydance in the sphere of the NFL, albeit at a smaller scale. This is because the connection between the NFL and Hollywood is far deeper than the one that golf currently has, and according to Mumm, the Tour “recognizes that they don’t have that expertise in Hollywood.”

However, the trend cycles are bending vastly in golf’s direction as the sport continues to make its grip on celebrities and influential personalities stronger. Therefore, the existence of Pro Shop is an effort to grow that relationship further and also capitalize on the rising opportunities.
