Wyndham Clark has been following a special diet to bite into the gold at Le Golf National in his Olympic debut. Although many have doubted his selection for Team USA over Bryson DeChambeau, the 1-time major winner has geared up for the medal, regardless of the noise. If Clark ended up winning the gold medal at the Summer Olympics, his diet might become the golden benchmark for many of his fans.
The GQ Men asked Clark what’s his diet like during a tournament day. The 2023 US Open winner explained that to be a massive force on the course, he needs fuel that comes from something that’s gluten-free, particularly oats. It seems like a bowl of oats with some fruits like bananas, berries, and some granola happens to be the go-to choice for the 26-year-old. As it is for the pre-round diet, Clark likes to keep it light with a bottle of water with electrolytes to take afterward.
During the round, to maintain the energy, the PGA Tour pro revealed that he eats carbs more with applesauce for a balanced sugar level. One might notice Clark chewing on a gluten-free almond butter sandwich, a protein bar, nuts, and jerky from time to time during the rounds. Post-round, the 3-time PGA Tour winner loads up on protein salad with starches and grains mixed with it. And although his day eating is light, Clark loads up on dinner with a typical plate of fish with rice and veggies and calls it a “clean and boring” diet.

But there is a strategy that the 1-time major winner follows: one thing that he has to do on the course and another that he avoids 100% of the time.

Wyndham Clark’s strategic eating during a round
There is a rule of thumb and Wyndham Clark follows it religiously. The PGA Tour pro was one of the only golfers to disclose his struggle with mental health and how he combated it through therapy with Dr. Elion, as shown on the Netflix series, Full Swing. Now, he will be the only golfer to reveal his diet and the strategy behind it.
The two things he follows are pretty easy. Clark describes that the key is to not feel hungry during the round. So, he explained that you are constantly trying to maintain energy and fuel your body. How does that work? Well, eating on almost every hole or every other hole works for the 3-time PGA Tour winner. He says, “You want to be nibbling on something to where you’re just kind of constantly giving your body fuel.”

One thing that Clark avoids at all costs is eating a huge amount of food at one time. He explained that doing that messes up sugar levels and a lot of food can deteriorate his focus and throw him off. Clark’s strategy can be clearly understood in his statement, “It’s just kind of a constant focus on making sure that you never feel hungry and keep all your levels the same.” Another thing that’s a constant in Clark’s diet is tacos. He could be a Tacos connoisseur at this point, as his Instagram stories bear witness to his love for the Mexican specialty.
Nevertheless, the stable diet has worked for Clark in the past, as he has picked up some wins on the PGA Tour. It remains to be seen if it will give him enough energy to battle it out at the Summer Olympics and grab a gold.
