We thought we had seen all kinds of championship souvenirs. Trophies, medals, belts, golden boots and whatnot. But LIV Golf surprised us with a new addition to the list. We are talking about Talor Gooch’s individual championship ring for the current LIV season.

Gooch probably is the first ever athlete to receive a ring for sports prowess. And it was surely a memorable way to receive it, too. Speaking of Greg Norman’s “proposal”, Gooch said he cracked up immediately. Let’s learn a bit more about the special ring and its story.

A ring for the champion is a new concept to the LIV golf setup as well. The league made its debut last year, and the individual champion for the season Dustin Johnson, did not receive a ring. Talor Gooch is the first golfer to get this honor.

Ben Baller, a celebrity jeweler, made the ring. He is popular for designing jewels for hip-hop stars like Drake and Kanye West. Coming out of his break from the world of jewelry, this ring is his first project.

The 14-karat gold ring has diamonds studded into it. The diamonds used range from VS and VVS diamonds, to DEF Color diamonds, besides emerald cut diamonds. Baller and his company, IF & Co. pulled the design off, and they have done a brilliant job of it.

Speaking of the ring, the video of Greg Norman getting down to his knees to offer Gooch the ring was quirky and amusing. We could hear the players yelling at Gooch to say yes… that was hilarious too. The awkward proposal gag certainly made the moment more special and, of course, memorable and funny. It looks like Greg Norman has more surprises planned. Gooch almost confirmed it as well.

More rings on the way?

The individual championship is definitely special, yes. But the team championship announcement at the end of the ultimate showdown will, of course, be the biggest highlight of the season.

And whether more rings will make their presence known during the final presentation ceremony kindles our curiosity. When Talor Gooch received a question about this, he acknowledged the rumor about team championship rings.

He not only acknowledged it but admitted he has been hearing about it as well. So, it’s probably safe to assume that the champion team members will also wear rings after the LIV Miami event is over.

Gooch also mentioned that he is angling for a second ring. Perhaps he doesn’t believe in the concept of ‘one ring to rule them all.’
