Fans have seen their favorite players leaving behind their legacies to join the Saudi league. However, not all fans know the hidden meaning of “LIV” in the name of the tour. Norman’s league has been representing itself as “an opportunity to reinvigorate golf”. Highly focused on growing the game, one of the league’s slogans is “Golf but louder”.

Formally launched as LIV Golf Investments, the league has a special meaning behind its name. The term LIV stands for the Roman numeral for the integer 54. And it is pretty easy to guess why they used the number as a representation of their league.

Greg Norman talked about why he gave this name to the league. “54 is the lowest score you could shoot if you were to birdie every hole on a par-72 course, so there is an aspirational aspect to the thinking. It is also the number of holes to be played in each event,” he explained.

They have been offering great amounts of money to talented players on the PGA Tour and bringing them in. After all, with Saudi Arabia’s petrodollars, money can’t be a problem for the league.
